Build Your Own Den with pl-ug

8 April 2014 by Eileen

In these modern times, we all try hard to give our children the best and of course, provide them with a fun childhood.  At times, Mr C will build a den with the kids and have their mini party while I cook lunch/dinner.  I am so pleased to come across pl-ug (the den expert) at the recent Toy Fair.  Now I won’t need to look for my missing pegs or clips as they have proper kit to help them build a proper canopy den!

pl-ug canopy den kit

In this Canopy Den Kit, there are:

  • 2 clamps
  • 2 hooks
  • 2 suckers
  • 2 pegs
  • 4 grips
  • 1 blue star sheet (144 cm x 284 cm)
  • 1 keep out sign

This kit allows children to build dens both indoors and outdoors.  It is suitable for aged 5 onwards.  With the introduction of tent pegs and the PL-UG sheet you can attach the components to different objects around the house and garden such as tables, chairs, and trees.

The tent pegs are very well made and easy to clip together.  Both of our six year old testers initially found it hard to understand how to clip the grips together with the hooks/clamps.  But after showing them how to match the groove, there was no stopping them with building their their own den!

We had tried different ways to build it.  This was built by my son.  He used the door and pretended that this was his car den with rockets!  He is well dressed up in his Formula 1 costume and ready to shot his enemies!

This next den was built by an engineer who ran out of ideas and decided to build it with chairs and doors for the kids to hide in there!

Next, I used a Boat Teal Hillarys blind as background and the Circus Hot Pink to create a den for Mr K’s boat!

Last but not least, after much driving, Mr K decided to take a nap in his den while enjoying the scenery!

The kit is easy to use and very well made.  It can be also used with other sheets instead of using the sheet provided.  The kit grips the thick sheet very well and can be reused again and again.

If you like the kit, you can buy via pl-ug shop or John Lewis online.  Beside the Canopy Den Kit (RRP £25), they also sell Den Kit (RRP £15) as the basic set or there is also the Ultimate Den Kit (RRP £55).  They also ship overseas, just email them for price!

Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.

This is such a cool idea, much better than having the dining chairs lugged into the middle of the room!

these look like a great idea, and you are never to old to build a den, my son still loves making the living room into a space station!

I love these sets, I was so impressed by them when I saw them at Toy Fair. Bud and his Dad love to build dens so it would be perfect for them.

That looks great! My son loves making dens but I often struggle with finding all of the bits needed to make one. This would be perfect!

I think the PL-Ug den kits look amazing, certainly be a great thing to get especially for summer in the garden 🙂

A den kit, how cool! A great idea for making a proper den that is secure but there’s something about getting your duvet and pillows and the washing line and making a den yourself isn’t there?

[…] This is us building a den! Both my children are particularly adept at building dens now and the mess that is par for the course. They’ve built a spaceship den, a hideout den, a ship den and a bedroom den. The tools are quite simple as we are using pl-ug den building tools to help us along. Read our review here. […]
