Woolly and Tig Book review

19 February 2014 by Eileen 7 Comments

Woolly and Tig is one of CBeebies’ most popular programmes.  It is about a three year old girl (Tig) and her toy spider (Woolly).  Tig finds new experiences frightening and her favourite toy helps explain what is happening and provides empathy and reassurance to enable Tig to face unfamiliar situations with confidence.

Woolly and Tig have launched a range of toys, books, DVDs and an app.  We had recently reviewed the app, DVD and books. Random House have produced a huge range of story books based on the show about new experiences, sticker books and an activity book for learning.

Woolly and Tig story book

We have received these:

  1. Woolly at Nursery
  2. I love Mummy
  3. My Wipe-Clean Activity Book
  4. Out and About Sticker Book
  5. Let’s Play Sticker Book
  6. Have Fun with Woolly

Woolly at Nursery

Tig and another little boy accidentally bump into each other but the boy blamed Tig.  Tig was not comfortable as it was not entirely her fault.  She then refused to go back to nursery until Woolly encourages her to shares her worries to her dad and her teacher.  This is based on one of the episodes from the show and each page contains images from the episode.  The book is made from good quality thick paper.  At the back page, it comes with a list of questions to help you talk through the story with your child and compare feelings with Tig’s.

I love Mummy

This is all about how Mummy loves Tig.  I love this book as it explains to children why sometimes Mummy can’t play with Tig as Mummy has important things to do.  I’m sure this resonates with all parents as I find it hard too to tell my children as they won’t take No for an answer when I am busy.  It is great to share this experience and to tell children we still love them even though we may not have time to play together.

My Wipe-Clean Activity Book

This book come with a marker pen and over 10 different activities: puzzles, drawing, tracing etc.  I love wipe clean books as I can pass it onto another child.  So after Mr K finishes using it, I can clean it and pass it to Ms C.  It’s RRP is £3.99 which I think is great value.

Out and About Sticker Book

This is all about special days out, from a visit to the zoo, to a day at the fair, a boat ride, a trip on a steam train etc.  There are over 100 stickers to stick on.  It is definitely great to cover the topic of days out and potentially new experiences.

Let’s Play Sticker Book

This comes with puzzles, colouring and over 100 stickers to keep children busy!  It is about games they could play, learning to write word and many more.

Have Fun with Woolly

This was published on 4th July 2013 and is packed with over 100 stickers.  It teaches preschool children to count, spot the difference, colours etc.

These books are definitely great for preschool children to learn basic counting, colours etc.  Each book is affordable and have simple activities for preschool children.  The books are very well written and designed to encourage children to talk about their new experiences.  Both Ms C and Mr K are very happy to do the activities without any helping from us and love the stickers provided.  They are great for long car journeys and whenever we have spare time to spend with them to help along.

Disclosure: I received this book from the publisher for free. However, they have not paid me for this review, and they do not exercise any editorial control over my review or anything else on this site.
