Butterfly and the Birthday Surprise

7 February 2014 by Eileen

Butterfly and the Birthday Surprise is a book written by Mandy Archer and illustrated by Kirsteen Harris-Jones.  It will released on 27th February 2014 and published by Picture Corgi.

Butterfly and the Birthday Surprise

This book is part of the Fairies of Blossom Bakery series.  Inside there are six different fairies, they are Cupcake, Cookie, Plum, Button, Sparkle and Butterfly.  Each have their own personality, are sweet and kind fairies.

The book is paperback containing about 32 pages. The font comes in one size and is good for reading with simple words that are easy to read by school children.  Each page contains a nice amount of sentences and a lot of beautiful fairy illustrations with charming colours.

In this story, Butterfly wants everything to be perfect for her birthday party.   She’s got her dress, her cake and her fairy friends are helping her with the invites and decorations.  However, disaster happens and it ruins her perfect party!  Heavy rain poured down and everyone went home and left.  Luckily her best friends came to the rescue and organised a small and yet perfect party among themselves.  This is a great series of friendship.

At the back of the book, there is a recipe to make Butterfly’s Fluttery Wings Cake.  This is a very lovely and delightful book to read.  Both my children enjoyed listening to it especially Ms C as she loves fairies.  It took us a while to get use to each fairy’s names as this was our first time, we read the series.  I would think this is more for girls than for boys and the level of the book would suit older children from aged 7 onwards to read by themselves.  The plot of the whole series sounds exciting and we’re certainly keen to read more.

Disclosure: I received this book from the publisher for free. However, they have not paid me for this review, and they do not exercise any editorial control over my review or anything else on this site.
