The Croods

Earlier this year, we took both of our children to watch The Croods at the cinema.  Unfortunately, Ms C wanted to go to the loo after we sat in the cinema for about 1.5 hours. By the time we came back to our seat, the movie had finished! Though Mr C did explain what happened in the last 5 minutes, it’s obviously not the same as watching it for yourself. So when Mumsnet was look for reviewers, I was delighted to get picked by them so that I’m able to finish the movie!

THE CROODS was written and directed by Chris Sanders (Lilo & Stitch) and Kirk DeMicco (Space Chimps), and features the voices of Nicholas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds and Catherine Keener. When their cave is destroyed, the Croods family set out to explore a spectacular landscape filled with fantastic creatures and strange surprises. Dreamworks Animation’s THE CROODS is released on DVD and Blu-ray on December 9 – just in time for Christmas. In this Blu-ray plus digital copy, there are the following special features:

The movie tells the story of a protective and old fashioned caveman dad who lives a life that is too mundane for her daughter. It touches upon human nature on how differences in opinions actually brought the family closer together as a unit. I personally like Belt, who is Guy’s pet as he is so cute and funny with his ‘Da da daaaaaaaa!’ My children love him too. Of course, Gran who is Grug’s mother-in-law is a great character too. She might be old but she has a whale of time. My children’s favourite scene is where the family reaches a path coated in spiked rocks which Grug, Thunk, and Gran get pricked upon trying to cross them. They both were in stitches laughing at their misfortune! Mr K did ask me why they are not dressed properly and why they don’t wear shoes! Bless him. He has no concept of life before the stone age! This film definitely teaches him some basic life survival skills such as making a fire.

The movie is about 98 minutes long which maybe too long for a child to sit still in the cinema. However, now with DVD or Blu-ray, the film can be paused at will, or watched in multiple sittings! The Croods is a great family show and would make a great to Christmas gift or stocking filler.
