Be creative with Cable & Cotton

21 July 2013 by Eileen

Recently, I came across Cable & Cotton’s fabulous lighting products. The cotton light ball looks so beautiful and adds a splash of colour to any room. Cable & Cotton allows you to be creative in the choice of colours for any of the balls or buy their pre-selected cotton balls. It is a fully customisable way to bring light, colour, fun and style to any home.

I ordered a customised set of 20 cotton balls and their website provides you a preview of how it will look. There are 38 beautiful colours to chose from so you are bound to find something you like. I ordered a mix of seven different colours: sky blue, fuscia pink, raspberry red, flask pink, flask green, lilac and sunflower yellow. My children totally love it and so do I.  Each ball is bright and very well made.

I ordered it on Wednesday and it arrived on Friday afternoon.  I was very pleased with the delivery and the postage only cost £2.95!  Inside this box, it comes with  20 cotton balls along with the lightstring, 2 spare light bulbs and an instruction leaflet.  It doesn’t come pre-assembled. So I let my daughter choose the sequence of her lights. To insert the light into the ball, you just have to twist and push the ball onto the light fitting. The balls can be quite soft around the hole, so be careful how you handle it. Also some balls have 3 small slits while some have one longer one. It is handy to have a pair of scissors or a pen knife on hand.

For those who are concerned about the impact on your electricity bill, you need not worry. I test it out with an electricity monitor and it only used 17.9 watts to run the light string. Assuming it costs 16p per kWh unit, this equates to approx three hours usage for only a penny! Twenty cotton balls cost £22.95 which means each ball is only £1.15 each.

Overall, I am very happy with the quality of the balls, choice of colours and the ambience it provides.  I rate this 5 stars out of 5.  I would highly recommend them to anyone for indoor lighting.  They are also great to act as a night light in a nursery room or you could use it to decorate a Christmas tree.

Product Details:

  • Each cotton ball is hand made.
  • The ‘cable’ aspect of the product is a transparent string of either 20 bulbs (length of lamps 140cm) or 35 bulbs (length of lamps 240cm) or 50 bulbs (length of lamps 340cm), complete with an additional 150cm length of cable between the plug and first lamp.
