We were fortunate to be ask to review Red dog, Blue dog by Orchard Toys through Izziwizzi Facebook’s PlayFest for reviews. It was an instant hit for both of my young children. Each time, when I get a match, I shouted “Bingo” and flapped my bingo wings. The children were creased up with laughter because I probably looked like a mad woman!
Red dog, blue dog is a fun first lotto game for very young players. It helps with early learning goals in personal, social and emotional development and creative development.
Contents:
- 4 different lotto boards (17 cm x 16 cm)
- 24 picture cards (4.7 cm x 6.9 cm)
It is suitable for age 2 to 5 and for 2 to 4 players. The objective is to be the first player to fill their playing board with the correct matching cards. There are a few ways of playing: we can play it like bingo, sorting activity or matching colour/animals.
Each player chooses a board with six fun images on it. These are a dog, spider, rabbit, car, teddy and a flower. They take turns to collect the cards to match the images. If the card matches a picture on the player’s board, they place it over the same picture on their board. If the card does not match, it is returned to the table, face downwards. Play then moves on to the next player. The game ends when a player collects the six images on their board.
It has clear packaging which describes the contents so you know exactly what you are getting for your money. The boards are thick and durable, which should make it long lasting.

In this video, we showed a couple of different ways to play this game. For the lotto game, the picture cards should be placed in a central pile or spread out face downwards on the table. For the sorting game, you can ask your children to name the picture cards or sort them out in colour or same pictures.
Red dog, blue dog retails at £9.50 which we think is good value for money. It will make a good game to play on a long journey like in an airplane or train for young children as it was not too heavy to pack it in your hand luggage or child’s bag (minus the box). I gave them a 4 stars out of 5.
