My family are a big fan of curry and spices! Last weekend, it happened to be my son’s birthday and we were so lucky to get invited to visit Bhujon Cocktail Bar and Indian Restaurant. I am glad to have discovered a new Indian restaurant as a number of Indian restaurants around Lichfield have either closed down or changed management and no longer any good. We really miss eating good Indian food.
Bhujon are based in Sutton Coldfield Birmingham, on Mere Green. In fact, they are not far from us at all. When we arrived using Google Maps, it took us to the street at the front of the restaurant which only allows parking for one hour. So we decided to drive around the area and found the Sainsbury’s car park (Mere Green road) which is three hours free! It was only a couple minutes of walk to the restaurant.
After arriving at the well-presented restaurant, we were greeted by their friendly staff and manager Mr Miah and Mr Zaman. Needless to mention about their service. It was top grade. So let’s get into what they offered us instead!
We were pleasantly surprised to find that the price range is very affordable and reasonably priced. In a posh residential area like Sutton Coldfield, I would have thought it would be quite pricey. This is their menu:
We were served with poppadoms along with usual accompaniment of onion salad, mango chutney and a yoghurt dip. They all went down very quickly!
For starters, Mr K and I ordered the Tandoori King Prawn which I would highly recommend. It comes with two beautifully cooked prawns topped with shredded onion along with fresh salad. The prawns are flavoursome and huge. It was not very spicy at all and Mr K wanted more! The salad was very crunchy and nicely shredded.
Mr C had lamb chop for starters. He loved his choice too and he would recommend that too. The lamb was tender, fragrant and tasty.
Next we ordered a Chicken ‘Mission Possible’ for our children, I had Tandoori Chicken Oven while Mr C had the Salmon Bahar.
The Chicken ‘Mission Possible’ is chicken sliced and cooked in olive oil, sweet mango and herbs served with sweet naan bread. The sauce is very mildly spiced and predominately sweet and comes with slices of mango too. The naan bread is drizzled with a sweet coconut based syrup. The food went down well for both of them except that they didn’t like the sweet syrup on the naan bread. Their naan is soft and with the added syrup, which I quite enjoyed, I think is quite unique.
My Tandoori Chicken Oven comes with two tender pieces of chicken and is served with pilau rice and salad. It was a decent amount of meat. The chicken is yummy but I was slightly disappointed with the rice. It was not as fluffy as I would have liked. This maybe because the rice is squeezed into a round mould. Overall though, this is a very delicious meal.
Mr C had a very well presented Salmon Bahar meal. I was so jealous! His thick and chunky fish was perfectly cooked! He also thought the rice was a little squashed by a round mould, but he loved his meal. It’s not spicy hot but more spicy flavoursome and so is suitable for most palates.
Mr C and I were so full with the starter and main that we didn’t order desserts but that didn’t stop our birthday boy. Each dessert costs around £2.50 to £3.90 which is very reasonable. Mr K ordered a Caramel Royal which is ice cream surrounded by chocolate sponge/biscuit. He loved it and so did Ms C who decided to help her brother!
We totally enjoyed our experience there. The atmosphere and music were great. Before we left, the restaurant was getting so busy and full. I can see why they have so many loyal customers wanting to eat there.
They also do a 4 course meal from Sunday to Thursday for £11.90 per person which includes poppadoms with chutney tray, any starter, any main dish, any rice or naan and coffee/tea. I think this is a great bargain meal.
They can be found at this address: 290-292 Lichfield Road, Mere Green, Sutton Coldfield, B74 2UG.
