The Boy Who Made Things Up is a book written by Margaret Mahy and illustrated by Jenny Williams. This is the red Early Reader and is the next step on your reading journey. It was released on 2nd October 2014 and published by Orion Books.
The book is paperback containing about 80 pages. The font comes in one consistent size. It contains beautiful full colour illustrations. The book is not split into chapters and is easy to read within one sitting.
The story unfolds with Michael who loves to make things up with his creative imagination. His father is always so busy with work and hardly spends time with Michael. When his father is free, he would be fixing his car instead. One day, his father’s car breaks down and he finally spent some time with Michael and in doing so, his father discovers that Michael is a really talented boy.
While they were going for a walk, they found (imagine) beautiful seashells and seaweeds along the stretchy seaside. They can’t believe in their own eyes when they saw mermaids, beautiful islands, giants, rainbows and many more. In the end, his father realised that he had missed out so many interesting adventures with Michael and decided that he should not spend time with his car but with Michael.
Mr K was able to read it well for his age and enjoyed reading the book. The storyline is very interesting, imaginative and easy to understand. I would definitely recommend this book. It is available to buy in good bookshops and Amazon.
