The Carrot Cake Catastrophe

The Carrot Cake Catastrophe is a book written by Elizabeth Dale and illustrated by Gemma Raynor. The book is suitable for ages 2 to 6. It was released on 1 May 2012 and this edition published by Parragon Book Service Ltd in 2013.

It is paperback containing about 32 pages.  The font is big and simple and it is easy to read by young school children.  Each page is beautifully illustrated with Jenny and her family.

The story is about Jenny’s mummy birthday.  She and her granddad wanted to make her mummy a surprise by baking a delicious carrot cake.  But Granddad being short-sighted adds soap instead of butter, salt instead of sugar, eggs with shells and the carrots go into the mixture whole!  When the cake is ready, you can imagine that the cake looks like a catastrophe than a proper carrot cake.  They quickly hide the bubbly cake into the garden but decided to tell her the truth.  When they reached the garden, there are a lot of beautiful birds scattering the garden eating the bubbly cake.  Mummy was very happy to see the birds and it turns out mummy had bought a carrot cake for her birthday anyway!

Both of my children enjoyed the book and were both giggling with laughter at Jenny and granddad’s misfortune.  This book is fun and delightful.  At the back of the page, there is a carrot cake recipe, we have not tried it out but would love to when we get a chance.  I would rate this book 5 stars out of 5.
