Morris 20L Dehumidifier Review

15 May 2022 by Eileen

If you are finding that your walls or window seals have mould spots, musty smells or condensation on the windows in the morning, then you will need to get a dehumidifier to get rid of the dampness around the house. Mould and allergen growth will lead to risks of health problems and can cause damage to the house. Hence it is important to get a dehumidifier to remove the moisture from the interior air of a room. It will also maintain the room’s humidity levels through a humidistat as too dry or too wet are both not great.

Morris 20L Dehumidifier Review

This British brand Morris 20L dehumidifier is ideal for bathrooms, wardrobes or a garage. It is powerful yet quiet at just 45dB. This bathroom dehumidifier looks very smart and modern in white and black colour, which looks great around the house. The dimensions of the machine are 343 x 570 x 237 mm, which is not too bulky. It weighs around 14.5 kg and comes with a handle gap at the back and castors for portability.

On the front of the unit, it features a 3 light humidity indicator that shows the current humidity levels in your room. As the unit gets to work and the humidity level decreases, the indicator will change from Red to Green to Blue.

Once I took it out of the box (tipped more than 45 degrees) and placed it upright in my hallway, I waited for at least 24 hours before I turned on the unit. This unit uses the latest Eco-friendly R290 gas refrigerant and has no damaging effect to the ozone layer. It requires time to settle before turning on just like any new fridge.

It comes with a touchscreen LED control panel with accurate humidistat, a 12-hour timer, 2 speed fan, child lock, two modes and sleep mode. The control panel is so easy to operate and touch sensitive. I have no problem selecting the programs with a gentle touch. The vent is on the top of the unit.

There are three different modes – auto, continuous and sleep. With auto mode, you can select the ideal humidity level and the fan speed. The ideal humidity level in British homes is 30 to 50%. Once the humidity hits the level you have set, the unit will automatically shut off. It will then automatically turn on when the humidity level is greater than or equal to 3% higher than the humidity level you set.

In continuous mode, the unit will continue to dehumidify in high fan speed as both the humidity setting function and fan speed setting become ineffective. It is useful if you are drying clothing, as this unit will extract the water far quicker and more efficiently. I prefer to use this mode and set the timer to stop in an hour’s time after the family finishes showering.

As for the sleep mode, the fan speed will automatically switch to low fan speed. The unit will shut off when the humidity is less than or equal to 57% and automatically turn back on when the room humidity is greater than or equal to 63%. The alarm will not sound but the red light will come on to remind you the water tank needs emptying.

It can extract up to 20 Litres of water per day from your household or commercial premises. It comes with a 4-litre tank and it will shut off and alarm when full. Or you can choose to have it continuously drain the water with the one metre extraction hose included. You can see how I insert the hose into the unit via my video.

In this video, I will show you the control panel, insertion of the hose and what I think about it. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/EtOt6R9XtrE

Personally, I have no use for the hose, as I don’t have any floor drainage system in my bathroom. If you have a floor drainage system, you could set it up permanently and secure it safely.

This unit has a removable and washable anti-bacterial filter, which helps trap airborne particles and improve the quality of air in each room. It is recommended to clean the filter every two weeks by giving it a quick vacuum and washing it with hot soapy water. Once dry, insert it back and it is ready for use.

I have been using it for a week around the house, especially around the family bathroom. This machine is very easy to use and efficient. The 1.5 metre long cable hides nicely inside the water tank when not in use. I would prefer to have a cable hold outside the machine, rather than having to wait until the water tank is dry, before placing the cable in the tank.

The water tank is easy to remove and comes with a lid. Simply pour the water through the gap or remove the lid. I was very impressed with the amount of water it removed each time I emptied it. Overall, this is a very effective unit with a nice touch sensitive control panel.
