This year, the Old Rep Theatre is bringing you a brand new twist to Lewis Carroll’s classic magical Alice in Wonderland to the stage. Now you are joining Alice and her three daughters on their adventure down the rabbit hole following the White Rabbit to meet some extraordinary characters. Not only that, this year they are working with BOA staff and Year 13 Musical Theatre students to, include four separate casts, playing over the next four weeks.
Yesterday, we had the opportunity to watch the show and we loved the energy from the young talented performers! This brand new script is written by Toby Hulse as we follow a now grown-up Alice and her three daughters Annie, Lottie and Emily. I enjoyed this new storyline with brand new characters. We follow this family down the rabbit hole to meet strange and peculiar creatures, including the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, White Rabbit, Queen of Hearts, Lizard and Guinea Pig.
Their costumes are amazing and authentic to the show. It’s a relatively small stage yet they have some grand props and the story is just magical! I love how they make use of modern and clever lighting to capture the story and light up the whole stage. In bringing it to the stage, they have amazing music and lyrics by Steve Allan Jones. The music is very catchy and upbeat. The young performers were all dancing the latest dance moves to fit in this modern world, and yet magical story. It was a very enjoyable show and we all loved it, especially with the music, the energy levels and excitement which ran throughout the show.
The show is showing until 17th December 2021! The ticket prices start from £15.50 for Preview, £21.50 for Standard, £19 for Concession, £72 for Family (admits 4) and £10.50 each for Schools/Educational Groups. The prices include a £1.50 restoration levy. The performance lasts for approx. 1 hour 45 mins including a 20 minute interval.
There are two shows each day from Tuesday to Saturday. There will be a British Sign Language interpretation on 14th December at 1.30pm. Please check the Old Rep Theatre for more details.
Do note that the theatre is quite small and there are a flight of stairs to climb if you bought a balcony ticket! Also, there is only one female and one male toilet located one further level up.
Have you booked your tickets to watch this amazing performance yet? Come on and join in this wonderful adventure this season and remember don’t be late for this very important date!
