A few weeks ago, I reviewed The Kids Only Cookbook by Sue Quinn and mad my own popcorn with my children. Today, we made ice cream using a Tin Can and it was amazing! Since the sun was out today, we decided to cycle to our nearby Waitrose and bought the ingredients that we needed. They are:
- 250 ml Double cream
- 250 ml Single cream
- 4 Tablespoon Caster sugars
- 1 Tablespoon Vanilla essence
- A packet of Salt
Besides the ingredients, you will need a jug, a tin can, ice (to go in the tin can), two zip lock bags and a spoon. You can watch the video of how to make the ice cream on here.
Firstly, we mixed in the double cream, single cream, caster sugar and vanilla essence into a jug with a spoon. Pop one zip lock bag inside another one. Pour in the ingredients into the double zip lock bags. Next fill half the tin with ice and salt. Place the bag in the middle and continue to fill in more ice and salt.
Now get both children to roll the tin! After 2 minutes, they had to stop rolling as it got too cold! So they ended up kicking it for another 3 minutes. We then left it aside as it was way too cold to touch it. The ice cream should be ready in 25 minutes but we left it in the tin for a bit longer.
This is our finished product and it tastes yummy too! I never knew ice cream was so easy to make! I love this cookbook as it teaches me a lot of simple ways of cooking or making meals by children! This particular recipe is also a great activity day too!
