Getting Your Garden Ready For Spring

6 February 2020 by Eileen

Winter is fast coming to an end, and this means that it is nearly time to spend more of an active approach to the tasks that your garden needs. Your garden can get a little forgotten about during the cooler months and this leads to an array of different tasks to complete. Now that the weather is starting to shift into the spring months, it’s time to start putting a plan into place ready to have your garden work in full swing by the time it arrives.

Getting Your Garden Ready For Spring

Let’s have a look at some of the tasks that you should be planning for:

Decluttering

Through autumn and winter, your garden can go through a tough time when it comes to clutter. Dry fallen leaves quickly become mushy piles of rubbish that need to be cleared. If you didn’t tackle these in the autumn and left them through the winter then chances are you will find them in your flower beds, across your lawn, struck to pathways, under your shed and underneath any shrubbery. Nows your chance to clear these. If you make this one of the first tasks you complete you will be able to identify other areas that need work much quicker.

Restocking

Spring is the time of year that you complete most of your planting and when the wildlife is preparing the bring new life to the world. In order to give them a helping hand and make sure you’re ready for planting season it’s a good idea to stock up in advance. Make an inventory of all the seeds, bulbs, bird food and bird feeders like this range that you’re going to need.

Pruning

Some plants and trees lay dormant through the winter in order to protect themselves. As the weather starts to warm up you will start to notice them coming back to life and sprouting. This is the time to start pruning them to help them come back out healthy and able to thrive. Always make sure you research the best way to prune each different type of plant, if you don’t do it correctly you risk harming them, and each plant or tree tends to be different.

Clean Your Containers

Any planters, pots or flower beds should be neat and tidy, ready for your planting in the spring. You are most likely sitting with empty containers that have seen better days from the bad weather in the winter. Empty them, give them a clean and prepare them for the new plants. If you have any containers or edging that needs to be replaced, it could be a good idea to order these now so you have them ready to sort out your garden work as and when you have nice enough weather to be in the garden.

These four areas should help you to get your garden ready for spring, do you have any other tasks that will help? Share them in the comments below.
