Bring The Outdoors In: Home Improvements To Help You Feel At One With Nature

Spending time outdoors is so beneficial. It can promote a sense of calm and wellbeing, boost mood and help us to feel refreshed- so what better way to improve your home than by bringing the outside in? Creating the same light, airy and fresh sense that you get while you’re outdoors, but inside. Here’s how you can go about it!

Bring The Outdoors In Home Improvements To Help You Feel At One With Nature

Add a Conservatory

Conservatories are a great way to add additional space to your home. It can be used as a dining space, as a home office, as a playroom for kids or just as a chillout room. With so much of the structure being made from glass, it really helps the transition between the inside and the outside and is a great way to make your downstairs feel light, bright and airy. Another option would be to add a glass extension, or glass french doors to the back of your home.

Make the Most of the Natural Light

Dim rooms or those that are artificially lit can feel dingy and claustrophobic. To help bring the outdoors in, you should be making the most of any natural light you have coming into the home. Switch up your window treatments so you’re not inadvertently blocking out the daylight coming in. Position mirrors on walls opposite windows to bounce the light around as much as possible, you could even consider having your windows made larger if you struggle with light. Changing your front and back door to models with a window can let light stream into hallways.

Invest in Lots of Plants

Plants and flowers have a psychologically positive effect on us as humans, so they’re well worth bringing into your home. Invest in some nice house plants, both small and larger varieties. They will bring colour and texture into your home, can help to improve the air quality and give you a sense of being outdoors even when you’re inside. Fresh flowers are another fantastic option, and something nice that you can treat yourself to every now and again.

Decorate in Natural Tones

Using fibres that are inspired by nature such as rattan, jute and wicker are good choices when you want to create a sense of the outdoors in your home. You can get things like rope framed mirrors, along with storage baskets and even natural fibre rugs. Choose a colour scheme that’s inspired by the earth- neutral tones are good for this along with shades of green, umber and yellow. Go with things like wooden floors and furniture as opposed to man made materials.

Make it Smell Nice

Pot pourri, plug in air fresheners and reed diffusers are all great long lasting fragrance solutions for the home. You can buy these in just about any scent these days, so pick out some great nature scents. From flowers to woody tones, ocean type scents and much more.

Get the windows open and refresh your home. At this time of year you will be enjoying the outdoors as much as possible, and by following these tips that sense of wellbeing and freshness doesn’t have to stop when you come in!
