K’nex Web Weaver Roller Coaster features a glow-in-the-dark track, allowing builders to play at night and experience a different kind of fun. This outstanding building set contains 439 classic K’nex pieces to build a coaster standing 83cm tall. It is suitable for 9 to 14 year olds.

This set comes with a rechargeable motorised coaster car which powers itself around the track. Before you start to build the roller coaster, it is best to charge your coaster car via PC or USB port first. First you have to remove the front cover and disconnect the grey plug from the car. The front cover can be difficult for a child to remove. I think it is best to have an adult help to avoid them breaking the cover. Next, connect the USB charging cable to the grey plug. The light on the USB charger will turn off when it is fully charged. Do allow the built-in Li-ion battery to cool down for 30 minutes before and after charging before you play.
This set comes with full colour illustrated instructions. Mr K is no stranger to K’nex sets. In fact, we have bought him a few K’nex sets before (Starter kit, Ferris wheels etc.) and he absolutely loves them. He has been using them to build a mobile phone stand, photo frame stand, iPad holder and many more weird and imaginative objects using K’nex.
Mr K managed to build everything on his own in just under two hours. He did say that he followed the instructions but when it was built, I found that he went off script in a few parts. If he followed the instructions, he would be able to pop the roller coaster either vertical or horizontal without needing to rebuild. He is quite happy with his design and has added a few more pieces from his Starter kit to extend the track out.
Mr K managed to tear two spider cardboard panels while trying to get it through the rods. I was quite disappointed as the cardboard no longer stays on it. It was not too difficult to fix it by using tape but it just doesn’t look as good. You can see it on my video: https://youtu.be/0oE02qUpdmw
The coaster car zooms crazily fast which really cool and my children absolutely love it! It did scare my children when we first turned it on as we didn’t expect it to be so powerful. It definitely has a wow factor when the car speeds past you. Some of the stickers on the car have peeled off – why can’t they make stickier stickers? To stop the car, the instructions tell you to put your hand in front of the moving car to stop it and turn it off. My son didn’t want to use his hand, instead he put the ruler into the track to stop the car.
The glow in the dark tracks look extremely cool at night which will be great for Halloween or Bon Fire night. Of course, you have to place it quite near bright lights to get it to glow afterwards. I like the vertical stand as it doesn’t take up too much floor space like a horizontal stand would do.
This construction set is totally awesome for older children and they will definitely benefit in growth of key developmental abilities like fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and dexterity. Also this being a rechargeable car should save you plenty of batteries. My son loves this set and he finds it very challenging and fun to play with.
