Tampines Hub is a newly opened first-ever integrated community and lifestyle hub that offers a comprehensive and diverse range of services, programmes and facilities. We got there by car on a weekday where it was less busy. You can also take the MRT – Tampines station or the bus. It is very convenient to get there. This hub has a variety of sports facilities, a brand new regional library, countless community club programmes and amenities, arts programmes and facilities, a hawker centre, retail shops and many more user-friendly features. One of the facilities that we tried was the Clip n Climb by HomeTeamNS at level 3.
This is a climbing activity which caters for all ages but children needs to weigh at least 10kg. The facility features 19 exciting colourful climbing challenges with different difficulty levels to suit beginners to more advanced climbers. Both of my children love rock climbing and the level of difficulty is just right for them. On the other hand, I felt that it is too difficult for my two four year old nephews especially as this was their first time climbing. They tried bouldering (traversing) across the wall and tried the easiest challenges. However, they both gave up within 20 minutes as it was too tiring for them.
Clip ‘n Climb HomeTeamNS offer a good discount rate for HomeTeamNS members, PA and SAFRA for 90 minutes of climbing. On the weekday, you can just turn up and climb. On the weekends, you have to book the slot as they can get very busy.
At Clip ‘n Climb, they use the TruBlue Automatic Belay system, with the magnetic eddy current braking technology to provide climbers with a safe controlled descent to the ground. Before you start to climb, you will have a brief safety course and wear your harness then you are free to explore the whole place.
On each wall, it will show the level of difficulty (1 – 3 clips). My son loves rock climbing and he went straight for those with two clips. As for Ms C, she prefers to go slow and steady so she started on the one clip. The whole climbing area is quite small compared to some of those in the UK. However, the facilities are definitely nicer and newer. Also they do have a few interesting and challenging climbs like the bean stalk and ice climb. The instructors were very patient, helpful and were always available to give you a hand to clip on the belay system if needed.
We were the first few to be there and we didn’t have to wait at all which was brilliant. They all had a great time trying out most of the challenges. Ms C did give up after 30 minutes of climbing whilst Mr K kept on climbing for an hour before he surrendered. He was just too tired to pursue another 30 minutes of climbing.
Later, we went up to the Tampines Hub swimming facility at level 6 to try their new pool before we realised that they don’t open on Tuesdays as it is their maintenance day! How disappointing and indeed I had four very unhappy children! Hopefully we will get a chance to visit the Tampines Hub before we leave Singapore.
