A visit to Sutton Park

12 March 2017 by Eileen

After much stormy weather, last Saturday, we finally had a beautiful morning that we decided to go for a walk in the park. We live within easy reach of Sutton Coldfield but have never been to Sutton Park before. Sutton Park is a large urban park. Most of the park is a National Nature Reserve and large parts are also a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

The park has numerous entrances, but after we googled for a map, we found the town gate entrance was convenient for the visitor centre. Driving there is pretty straightforward if you’re following a sat nav. As the weather was very nice, we expected there to be a lot of people and cars so we were lucky to find a good car parking spot.

We then walked to the visitor centre to get some information about the park. I was happy to see that they have such a good display and information about the park. It was like a small museum with a number of stuffed real animals on display. It is educational and fun too. Both of my children were fascinated with the animal displays. I then bought a pack of duck food from there.

After checking out the place, we went out to one of the pools to feed the goose and swans. They were very ‘friendly’ and surrounded both children quickly to nibble on the food. We then took a long walk around the park. Even though we had walked for an hour, we probably only managed to cover probably 10% of the park. The park is huge and we could easily get lost, but luckily we had a map. It is such a great place to walk around and the bridleways are shared by cyclists and dog walkers too. Some dogs may not be on their leads so if you’re not a dog person, then be careful as they might sneak up on you!

We had a lovely time walking there and will definitely go back again. It is a great place to explore and have fun.

The park looks lovely and it’s so nice to feed the ducks. I go often to the park to feed them too, it’s relaxing.

It looks like you had a great time. What a fab park. None of our local parks have duck ponds. We really miss feeding the ducks x
