5 Top Essentials for a Long Car Journey

15 April 2015 by Eileen

Travelling in the car can sometime be quite stressful. So I always make sure we have these essentials in the car to try to make sure that my children can be comfortable in the car. My 5 and 7 year olds can be quite demanding in the car especially when it’s a long journey.

5 Top Essentials for a Long Car Journey

These are our top 5 essentials for our car journey:

  1. Food – buying in bulk and bringing your own food always save us a lot of money. Instead of buying food from a service station, we stock up our car with food. We have a cotton bag called the snack bag that is filled with all the individually packed snacks like biscuits, cakes, chocolate etc. and also banana and apple too. We normally place the bag in-between the children so that they can reach it for themselves (they do ask permission though).
  2. Drink – bottles of water are always a must in the car. They are not only good for your hydration, but sometimes, if you forget to top up your car water bottle, it could be used for these emergencies! I usually buy them in bulk like 12 bottles for £2 and keep them away from the sunlight.
  3. DVD player – My children love to watch movies on the go. They will have a few DVDs in the car, ready for them to watch. It will also keep them quiet for a long time!
  4. Trunki Yondi Head and neck support – normally after a movie, they will feel tired and start to drift off. In order to keep them comfortable, I used this Yondi for both of them to support their head and neck. These Yondi supports are made from micro bead fillings covered in a cosy plush fabric. They look fun and come with hidden magnets to connect under the chin to form a soft and supportive cushion. It also comes with a unique ‘Trunki Grip’ to attach a comforter or blanket or maybe an ear piece for their DVD player. They have so many cute and fun designs, and are suitable for age 2 and above. They are comfortable and easy to wear around the neck. Trunki Yondi Owl Head and Neck Review Trunki Yondi Owl Head and Neck support
  5. Blanket and clothing – we always have a blanket in the car boot just in case the children feel cold and they need it. I also find that sometimes we used the blanket for impromptu picnics. Clothing in a car is also a must. Children tend to dirty or could have accidents. So having a spare clothing will make them more comfortable than wearing dirty and wet clothing.

While I was writing this blog post, The Brick Castle told me the secret to her 5 essentials in her car are: patience, a hearing impairment, nerves of steel, an ability to resolve arguments that would impress Terry Waite, and the reach of Mr Tickle – to retrieve Mr Bunny from the footwell and return him to his grateful owner. Great stuff! I think these are essential too!

Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.

Hi, I’m Eileen — a mum of two teenagers, aged 18 and 17, and a passionate lifestyle blogger sharing snippets of family life, creativity, and culture since May 2012. My daughter lives with visual impairment, and our journey together has shaped much of the heart behind this blog.

Whether I’m creating festive crafts, exploring Chinese traditions, or trying out new recipes, I hope to inspire others through everyday moments from home.
