Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) is a show from my childhood in the 1990s where a group of ninja turtles fight against the bad guys like Shredder to save the city. In this 2014 movie, they have all had a major makeover and they all look awesomely scary! I love that they have given the turtles more detail to their costumes and have rippling muscles. They still wear their bandannas, eat pizza and like to joke around.
This movie is set in New York City and is all about action and laughter. These four pizza-loving brothers are saving the City from the villains aided by young determined reporter April O’Neil played by Megan Fox.
Personally I think the story focuses too much around April O’Neil trying to prove herself to her boss with a story of talking, crime-fighting turtles. I’m not a big fan of Megan Fox and find her acting emotionless so that I’m sure that didn’t help.
Overall my son did get quite excited to watch all the action scenes. He is not scared of the edgy looking turtles and love how the superheroes fight in style with their swords, nunchucks, bo staff and a pair of sai! The CGI is really well done and is pretty seamless with the real scenes. As I grew up watching TMNT, I do find it nice to watch the new digital enhancements they’ve given to the turtles.
This movie is rated 12 for moderate action violence and threat, which is why my five year old daughter didn’t watch it. This is not a family friendly movie and is more suited to watch it with older children in the house. The DVD is now available in all good retailers and Amazon for around £11.99.
