This half term, we have been doing all sorts of activities at home including painting, reading and cooking. We even designed our own t-shirt! Both of my children have previously enjoyed designing their own cards, posters and all sorts but had not yet designed their own t-shirt. This is their first time and mine too!
We have received this t-shirt design kit from buytshirtsonline.co.uk. Inside this kit, it comes with Fruit of the Loom t-shirts, fabric pens, and iron-on heat transfers of Spider-Man and Disney Princess.
Before I allowed both children to design their t-shirt, I ironed the image onto the t-shirt. They suggested to place the t-shirt on a smooth cloth (couple of tea towels or a folded pillow case) on top of a hard surface such a table or kitchen worktop. I placed mine on the table along with a hand towel. After ironing all the creases from the t-shirt, I then put the iron-on image onto the t-shirt and ironed it. I carefully ironed in a circular motion to distribute heat evenly and the edges. It took nearly 4 minutes for Spider-Man to stick on! To be on the safe side, I turned the iron down to the lowest setting. After it cooled, I peeled the backing paper off.
Both of my children had not used a fabric pen before so they just squeezed it hard and it came out as a blob! So it turned out quite awful! Then I left them on the laundry stand to dry overnight. Normally it will take 5 hours to dry but my children had put far too much paint on it!
This is what they have created and they were both very proud of it! We need to wait another week before we can wash these to allow the paints to stick on properly! Unfortunately, after washed, all the paints and prints came off the t-shirt!
I love this t-shirt design kit idea as next time we could design our own t-shirts for school events or activities. It was such great fun, affordable and of course a lot of mess! Shamed that every print came off the t-shirt.

what a shame they came off! Think I’m pleased we didn’t review in the end, there would have been tears if that had happened here.
Love that last photo. I ironed on our tractor transfer today and now Monkey won’t draw on the t-shirt as he loves the tractor too much!

N went for the random design too – wish I’d got more prescriptive, but he loved doing it.
