Rolife Music Dreamer Christmas Melody Tree Review

4 November 2026 by Eileen Leave a Comment

Looking for a Christmas decoration that’s more memorable than something straight off the shelf? The Rolife Christmas Melody Tree gives you a lovely excuse to slow down, make something with your hands, and create a festive display you can enjoy long after the building is done.

It could be a fun project to make with family over the holidays, or a thoughtful gift for someone who loves puzzles, crafts, or model building. Once finished, it’s more than a decoration: it lights up, plays familiar Christmas tunes, and brings a tiny festive scene to life. With Christmas just around the corner, it’s a charming way to add a little extra magic to the season.

More Than Just a Display

The Christmas Melody Tree isn’t simply a wooden model to build and leave on a shelf. Once assembled, it comes to life with lights and music, Santa in his sleigh pulled by flying reindeer, a moving gift train, and a star on top of the tree.

It works as a decorative model, a musical centrepiece, or even a cute night light. The clever combination of a 3D wooden puzzle and a moving Christmas display makes it something the whole family can enjoy.

It would certainly make a fun project to work on together over the long Christmas holiday break.

This isn’t my first time building a 3D wooden puzzle from Rolife. You may remember my previous builds: the impressive 1912 Eternal Atlantic Voyager and the Classic Carousel. I’m also looking forward to building another display, Polaris Post, soon.

What’s Inside the Box?

The Christmas Melody Tree kit contains 319 precision-cut plywood pieces, double-sided tape and adhesive dots, a wax stick, warm white lights, plastic components, a few handy tools and instructions.

It’s designed for builders aged 14 and above and has a difficulty rating of 3 out of 5 stars, making it a fun challenge for intermediate puzzle enthusiasts.

The completed tree measures approximately:

  • 30 cm long
  • 30 cm wide
  • 40 cm high

You’ll need a Type-C power cable to use the tree’s electronic features. Keep it handy while building, as you’ll need to test the mechanisms along the way. Once powered, the tree offers a lighting mode, two rotating features (the train and the star), and three short classic tunes:

  • “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”
  • “Jingle Bells”
  • “Deck the Halls”

It sounds so Christmassy. I love it!

Building the Tree

Rolife estimates that the tree takes around three hours to complete. I took closer to seven, partly because I accidentally pulled out an insert without realising it was there. When the mechanism didn’t move as it should, I had to take part of the model apart to find the problem.

Luckily, the plywood pieces stayed strong and intact throughout the disassembly, and nothing was damaged. The kit includes a few spare pieces, though I didn’t need to use them.

I took longer than expected, but I had so much fun putting it together. There’s something very satisfying about watching a pile of flat wooden pieces slowly transform into a beautiful Christmas display.

Rolife also includes a small square of sandpaper to smooth the edges of the wooden pieces. I didn’t need to use it because most of the pieces came out of the sheets neatly. For the occasional rough edge, I found that my fingernails did the job just as well.

Don’t Throw Anything Away!

The kit includes a wax stick for lubricating the wooden parts. It may leave a few loose bits as you rub it over the pieces, but the stick is small and lasts well. I still had about half of it left when I finished.

As with other Rolife wooden puzzles I’ve built, you don’t need glue or special tools for assembly. I did get a little impatient and used glue to attach the yellow baubles and presents, rather than securing them as instructed.

The Moving Train

One of my favourite details on the finished tree is the little train carrying tiny gifts. It’s so cute!

Clear and Detailed Instructions

The instructions are well illustrated and easy to follow. They include helpful assembly tips, and there’s a video showing how to wax the pieces. The white tray is also handy for keeping all the small parts together.

As mentioned above, the kit includes a few spare pieces, which is reassuring. If you accidentally break a small part during assembly, you may have a replacement available instead of having to stop the project.

Watching It Come to Life

Once assembled, the tree sits securely on a detailed wooden base with a train track. The dual-motion mechanism recreates a charming festive scene: Santa’s sleigh spins anticlockwise while the train runs clockwise. Add the lights and music, and the whole display feels wonderfully animated.

The tree has a touch-sensitive switch that makes it easy to operate:

  • First touch: The lights and music turn on. The tunes play in sequence—“We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” “Jingle Bells,” then “Deck the Halls”—while Santa and the train begin to move.
  • Second touch: The music and movement stop, but the lights stay on, turning the tree into a night light.
  • Third touch: The tree switches off.

To switch everything off at once, simply touch and hold the button.

Beautiful Details

The attention to detail really impressed me. I love the classic-style buildings beneath the tree, surrounded by little Christmas trees, a snowman, and a reindeer. And, of course, there’s the flying sleigh! Once everything is assembled, the whole display looks surprisingly elegant and detailed.

It’s a delightful alternative to traditional LED candle arches, bringing a cosy festive atmosphere to wherever you choose to display it.

I really enjoyed building the Christmas Melody Tree, and I think it would make a wonderful Christmas or birthday gift for anyone aged 14 and above who enjoys puzzles, crafts, or model building. And you don’t have to buy it for someone else—you could treat yourself and proudly display it at home.

For me, it’s money well spent because the fun doesn’t end when the build is finished. You can switch it on, watch Santa and the train circle the tree, enjoy the lights and music, and use it as a night light. It’s a festive decoration with a little story built into it—and one I’ll look forward to bringing out each Christmas.
