We.Lock Smart Lock Fingerprint Door Lock Cylinder Review

29 January 2024 by Eileen

Locking your home has become easier! No need to look for your keys again. All you need are your fingerprints and everyone who is registered via the device, can enjoy using it with ease. This smart lock fingerprint door lock from We.Lock is a great gadget for all homes.

My sisters live in Singapore and have been using this technology for over 6 years. Whenever I visit her home, I can just pop in without needing to wait for her. This fingerprint lock is also great for both of my teenagers, especially for my visually impaired daughter. It can be quite a challenge for her to just insert a key into the keyhole. Also, my son is always too lazy to take out his keys to open the door.

This We.Lock smart lock fingerprint door lock cylinder is available to buy via We.Lock and now you can save £40 by using this code: welock40. It is shipped from a European warehouse and comes with a 2-year warranty.

Inside this well-protected box, it comes with a cylinder, 3 RFID cards, a lock cylinder extension with screw, a Phillips screwdriver, an Allen key, a thimble, 2 silicon green plugs, 2 front handling screws and 2 fixing screws for the battery cover.

On the silicone cover, it will have the QR code. Scan the QR code by using your phone’s camera, it will take you to their website. Select the right software (iOS and Android), then download it. Once you’ve registered your account, you will need the product ID, which can be found printed on the side of your lock cylinder. This will register your lock.

Open the silicone cover, you will see the reset (use the thimble to reset if needed) and USB port. This is another method to unlock the lock if you run out of battery. You can use the USB backup to unlock it. The USB power bank is for unlocking and can not be charged.

This door lock requires three AAA batteries, which are not included. I had initially tried using rechargeable batteries but the screen only showed half battery life. Hence I changed to regular disposable batteries and the battery life now shows full. To insert the batteries, you will need to remove the metal casing using the Allen key. Pop open the lid and insert the batteries as shown. Then close the cover and tighten the cover with the fixing screw.

After inserting the batteries, you can synchronise the lock via your app, for the date and time. Also, I registered my fingerprints as the admin and others as users. This door lock can take up to three admins and 97 users’ fingerprints. Also, you can open the door with an RFID card (3 cards provided, up to 20 cards can be paired, buy them via their store) or with the app.

This door lock is suitable for all doors with thicknesses between 30 – 70 mm. With the included extended lock cylinder component, it can easily accommodate doors with a thickness of up to 100mm. I had to extend both the front handle (20mm) and back knob 30 mm in order to fit through my door.

Installing is very straightforward. Remove the back knob from the cylinder by using the Allen key to loosen the screw. I found it quite tricky to remove the existing lock. I had to wiggle the lock cylinder with the key before the whole unit came off.

After removing the existing lock, I placed the lock cylinder through the front part of the door. I have extended the front handle by 20 mm. You can watch how I extend it via my video here: https://youtu.be/Exhc8mewWG8

As my door is quite thick, I had to place the extension, which is secured by a screw. Then placed the back knob back.

In my video, I also show how to lock and unlock the door. You need to engage the lock to unlock and lock the door. If there is no engagement, it will not lock. Same with the inside lock. You need to turn it to lock it.

There is an OLED display of battery status, settings, and alerts. Pressing the set key wakes up the display and then you can scan your fingerprint to unlock or lock the door. The set key is also to enter into the setup menu, where you can set up fingerprints, register the cards, change sound, languages and many more.

This lock is very easy to install – if I can do it, anyone can do it. Setting up the lock and app might take a while to understand. I love the concept of fingerprint locks. It makes it easy to access for disabled persons or children who might not have a key yet. The lock is IP54 waterproof rated and has a working temperature of -10°C to 60 °C. It is expensive to buy, but it is good value for money and I would recommend it.
