Hoover Anti-Allergy Upright 300 Vacuum Cleaner Review

28 March 2022 by Eileen

This Hoover anti-allergen Upright 300 is a lightweight vacuum cleaner that uses cyclonic technology that pushes dust away from the filter and helps the filters stay cleaner for longer. It also has a HEPA filter installed, which is ideal for allergy sufferers as the washable H13 HEPA filter traps allergens and helps purify the air in your home. Not only that, this blue pets model that I have received comes with a mini turbo brush nozzle to remove stubborn pet hairs from cushions, sofas and carpets.

It comes with six items, which is the HU300 vacuum cleaner, detachable handle, 3-in-1 tool, mini turbo brush nozzle, wiper blade and instructions/warranty information. It took me less than a minute to connect the handle onto the body, place the tool and nozzle onto the holders and it was ready to use. The handle is covered in soft-touch materials which makes it comfortable to hold. Behind the handle, there is a cord clip to fit the power cord to avoid damaging the cord during use.

It is optional to insert the wiper blade at the floor nozzle. It will improve the efficiency of the vacuum cleaner, but it also means it will make it more difficult to push and manoeuvre. I did insert it and I needed a blunt tool to guide the tip of the wiper blade into the grooves. Once it is inserted, it is not easy to remove.

In my video, I will be showing you the different components of the vacuum cleaner, how to remove and maintain the filters, remove the floor brush, use the nozzles, disassemble the clear bin compartment for cleaning and what I think about it. Do watch the video to take a closer look: https://youtu.be/YIenWq8oP1A

The vacuum cleaner looks modern in grey and blue trim. They do come in a red colour too. I love that all clickable areas are in a white colour code, like the on/off switch, hose clips etc. This is their lightest range of vacuum cleaners and weighs just 4.9kg without the nozzles attached. I have no trouble lifting it up the stairs or other areas.

It comes with two different nozzles which are easy to attach either with the hose or with the handle and hose. Please see the photos for details. I do find that occasionally the nozzle will fall off when I hold it near the hose’s clip or when I hit the nozzle that was attached to the handle itself. Hence it is better to wrap your hand around the hose and nozzle area to avoid this problem.

To use the 3-in-1 tool, simply choose the part (crevice/dusting/furniture) you would wish to use. To remove the part, push the round button to release the part and slide it out. The mini turbo nozzle is great for removing pet fur from soft furnishings as the rotating bristles penetrate deeply into the fabric to loosen the fur. If hairs or strings get tangled inside the nozzle, simply twist the handle to unlock, open the nozzle cover to remove any tangle. This is also shown in my video.

It comes with an 8.1 metre long cable, which sits neatly behind the vacuum cleaner with a storage hook. With the 2 metre hose, it gives you over 10 metres of length to work with. So that should avoid needing to find alternative mains sockets.

There are two white buttons on the top. One is the on/off power and the other one is the brushbar on/off button. It is recommended to turn on the brushbar for carpets and off for hard floors and deep pile rugs. To be honest, normally I just leave the setting for all types of floors.

On the floor nozzle, there is the suction regulator. Slide it to the carpet setting for long pile carpets or rugs for minimal suction level. Slide it to the hard floor setting for hard floor or short pile carpet for maximum suction level. I find it easy to slide the lever using my feet while vacuuming.

To access the floor nozzle, you will need a coin, like a 10p coin or screwdriver, to unlock the locking clips to unlock the brush guard. Remove the brush guard and take the brushbar out. Now you can cut away any strings or hair tangled on the brushbar easily. Personally, I would not remove the brush guard at all as it has enough exposed areas to access part of the brushbar to cut off any hairs. Also, re-inserting the brushbar can be quite fiddly. It will require threading the brushbar in the belt, placing the flat sides of the brushbar into the groove on each side, then clipping the brush guard, before securing it with the locking clips.

The dust container is located at the front of the vacuum cleaner. The usable capacity of the dust container is 1.5 litres, which is good enough to clean our house without having to empty it partway through. I like that there are no hidden costs like buying vacuum bags or changing filters as dirt empties directly from the vacuum cleaner into your bin.

The whole dust container and washable foam filter with ribbon can be disassembled easily to wash. Simply remove all the parts and wash in cold water. Then allow the washable foam filter to dry for at least 24 hours before you place it back into the dust container. This applies to the HEPA filter which is located at the bottom of the container.

I find the vacuum cleaner very easy to manoeuvre around the house, and vacuums very well on all surfaces in our home. It is nice that I can control the suction resistance on carpets or hard floors. Overall, I am impressed with its powerful suction, its ability to manoeuvre around the house and its lightweight and modern design.
