The Little Changes That Make a Big Difference

4 February 2022 by Eileen

As much as you love your house, there may come a time when you start thinking about a renovation.

You may not have time to do a big project with structural improvements, but luckily there are so many ways you can make changes to little things in your home that will a big difference.

If you have enough time, these small changes can be done in a day or over the weekend and despite how small they are, you will be impressed by the positive impact they have on your house – they may even improve your daily life!

The Little Changes That Make a Big Difference

Rearranging makes all the difference

Rearranging large furniture items, like sofas, beds or cabinets, will have a big effect on the room.

If you move your sofa from the centre of the room to the wall, it will open up a lot more space that can be used for other furniture items or decor pieces.

Try creating a focal point in each room. Display photographs, ornaments, coffee table books or plants in an area that will catch the eye.

We tend to hide these items on shelves or in cabinets, but moving them around will transform the room.

Ask for advice from a family member if you have self-doubt about rearranging a space.

Install new fittings and fixtures

New fittings and fixtures in the bathroom or kitchen may require some DIY skills, but these rooms form part of your daily routine and you deserve to enjoy them.

If you have an old radiator in the lounge, why not consider replacing it with a more stylish one (take a look at the radiators on offer by Trade Radiators)? Install a new shower head in the bathroom or new taps in the kitchen.

Lights also have the ability to make a huge difference, and they do not necessarily cost a lot of money.

Focus on one statement light, like a chandelier or ceiling fan, or bring in smaller table lamps or standing lamps to accent certain features. Most people do not realise the power of a lamp or wall sconce.

Add decor and nature

Ever walked into a room and just wanted to throw open the windows and let in the fresh air? Why not bring nature inside?

Filling your rooms with living plants or flowers is an easy, small change you can make to bring more energy into a room (and scheduling time in the week to nurture your plants is one of many good habits you can adopt in your new home).

Artwork like framed prints or ornaments will also breathe new life into a room. The first lesson of decor is to know how much is too much – you don’t want a room to feel cluttered!

Art can be a bit expensive, so just make sure you spend within your budget. If you are uncertain, select one wall to be a feature wall and fill it with bright colours and photographs.

Conclusion

Making small changes to your home can make a big change in your happiness levels.
You do not have to blow your budget on expensive items and renovations – small changes at home can make a big difference!
