How to Design the Perfect Guest Annexe Garden Room

8 March 2021 by Eileen

We have all had to host family and friends in our homes, whether it’s for a family gathering at Christmas, or to get away for the weekend and explore where your friends live. For those who are fortunate enough to have a spare room in their home, it can be an easy arrangement, but for other busy households it can be a logistical nightmare. A garden room can be the perfect solution, providing a beautiful guest annexe for family, friends, or even to rent out and make some money from!

How to Design the Perfect Guest Annexe Garden Room

When you think of a garden room, you most likely don’t think of beautifully designed, spacious, light mini home that is suitable for guests to live in. This is a common misconception after years of cheap garden rooms which only last for a few years before showing wear and tear – even from minimal usage. Hawksbeck Bespoke Garden Rooms have changed the industry completely, with stunning garden rooms that last a lifetime, built from Structurally Insulated Panel’s that pass building regulations and make your garden room approved for residence.

This is the most important aspect of creating a perfect guest annexe, you must ensure that the structure of your garden room has been approved by building standards so you can allow people to reside inside. This ensures that you have all of the necessary fire exits, plumbing and electrical fittings which make your garden room as safe as it can be for your guests. Most garden rooms do not provide the necessary level of design and quality of materials needed to be approved, which makes Hawksbeck standout from other garden room providers as every garden room is approved by building standards.

The perfect guest annexe needs to have three features at a minimum: a bedroom, a bathroom and a mini kitchen. These are the basics you need to make your guests feel comfortable. Once you have planned for these basic features, you can then plan for a living space, an outside patio area, or even a cinema room! You can be as luxurious as you like, with the only restriction being the size of your garden. The Hawksbeck Garden Room team will be able to create as many rooms as you like in your bespoke garden room, including fitting bathrooms, kitchens and storage features.

You will want to make sure your guest annexe feels both cosy yet well-lit and ventilated to avoid it feeling like a cabin. You can do this by having skylights in the roof and having warm lighting inside the bedroom and living spaces. Another option would be to have wide glass bi-folding or sliding doors, however this may make your garden room feel less private to guests if you are renting out the garden room. Skylights are a safer option which bring lots of natural light into your garden room, without compromising privacy. Creating a perfect garden annexe has never been easier!

If you want to have a space to host family, friends and guests outside of your home, a Hawksbeck bespoke garden room is perfect for you. Call Hawksbeck Garden Rooms on 01277 414586 today to arrange your free site survey.

Hello!

Welcome to ET Speaks From Home!

Hi, I’m Eileen — a mum of two teenagers, aged 18 and 17, and a passionate lifestyle blogger sharing snippets of family life, creativity, and culture since May 2012. My daughter lives with visual impairment, and our journey together has shaped much of the heart behind this blog.

What started as a small space to document family memories has grown into a vibrant corner of the internet where I share my love for cooking, crafting, DIY projects, Chinese culture, parenting, and honest product and YouTube reviews. Whether I’m creating festive crafts, exploring Chinese traditions, or trying out new recipes, I hope to inspire others through everyday moments from home.

Over the years, ET Speaks From Home has been recognised by several parenting and blogging communities, including:
