Some of you may know that earlier this year, we bought a house and had it renovated which included the windows and garden. We have now been living in our home for just over a week, and I’ve turned my attention to my office! It was not supposed to be my office as it was originally going to be my son’s bedroom but we decided it would be better served as a guest room by buying a sofa bed. Currently, it is a dumping ground for all our belongings!
Last week, we received all our belongings that had been in storage for a year! After 12 hours of sorting out the boxes, I managed to distribute them all and build all the furniture. This week, I finally had some time to rethink the spare room, which is now going to be my office. Hooray! I really need a place to work instead of working on the dining room table.
This spare room is in a weird shape and not many things can fit in properly. Or we have to think it through carefully to make full use of the floor space we have. We had the built-in wardrobe doors changed to white wooden sliding doors as the previous sliding mirror doors were very heavy and stiff. These doors had to be custom made to fit the size. The wall was slightly taller than the rest of the house and a normal size door would not fit in it. Nevertheless, our builder had it done to match the rest of the room which is white and grey.
We changed all the carpets to a grey colour which is quite trendy now. We also had the walls painted in white and removed all the wallpaper from the ceiling! Yes, patterned wallpaper on the ceiling! We had it stripped off and replaced it with lining paper to get a smooth ceiling.
Now the million dollar question! What would I like for my office? Firstly, it would be great to have a new desk! I happened to find a really good designer desk from LionsHome. At the moment, besides using my dining table, I am also using my daughter’s desk to work too. It is just a plain white table. Yes, it is functional but it does ruin the look of the room.
Secondly, I want to get a proper chair. I want a luxurious, comfortable chair with a wow factor. I have seen a few chairs that have gorgeous details on the fabric and with curvy legs. I haven’t found any chairs that are within my budget but I will have to shop around to get it for the right price!
Thirdly, I want to hang pictures on my wall. I do have a couple of old picture frames that I had reviewed which I would really like to put up. At the moment, they are on hold until I know what to do with the room.
Fourthly, I will place my digital photo frame on it! I had to keep it in storage as the two bedroom flat that we had rented was too small. We didn’t have the luxury of having many of our non-essential items with us especially all our precious pictures!
Lastly, I am thinking of getting a few fake plants to lighten up the room and also decorate the desk with it! It might sound crazy but artificial plants are great for me as real plants never last very long in my care! Can’t wait to get it done now!
