How to Put a Tiled Roof on a Conservatory

19 March 2019 by Eileen

The roof is an important part of any building. It’s what protects it from a lot of things, such as rain, snow, and many others. When you have a conservatory, the roof is just as important as it is for the rest of the house. After all, you will spend a lot of time there, so it needs the same amount of protection.

How to Put a Tiled Roof on a Conservatory

But how do you put a tiled roof on a conservatory? conservatory roof replacement experts, Complete Service Maintenance, share how:

1. Think About the Type of Roof You Need

There are various types of tiled roofs to choose from, and given the options, it’s hard to come down to a decision. There are some basic ones to look at first, and they could be great choices for a conservatory:

• Composite Panels – They can replace glass panels by offering an alternative to glass or tiles

• Slate – Slates can offer a very classic appearance and they are very durable as well. Their looks aren’t tarnished easily either, and they come in many color combinations.

• Synthetic tiles – These tiles have been developed a lot in recent years, and now there are many options to choose from on the market. They can be made from rubber, limestone, cement, polymers, glass fiber and others. They are also very durable.

• Concrete tile – Concrete tiles are the ones you see on most roofs. You can get them in multiple color combinations, and they have a smooth surface too. At the same time, they can be heavy.

2. Check the Framework

Before adding the actual roof, it’s essential to ensure the framework has the right structure. Moreover, it needs to be able to sustain the weight of a tiled roof. Considering there are multiple types of tiles and whatnot, roofs can be heavier as well.

3. Remove the Old Roof Panels

If you want to add the new tile roof, you need to take off the old one. After all, you can’t add the fresh roof while the poorly insulated conservatory roof panels are still in place.

4. Replace the Existing Roof Frame

Obviously, you need to replace the older roof frame so you can add the new tiled roof. The replacement needs to be done with a frame that is suitable for the tiles to be attached to. You can also fit the new system over the existing roof, but that will add more weight to the whole structure.

5. Add the Tiles

Now that the framework has been replaced, it’s time to get to the next step. You have to install the new tiled roof. Tiles are laid out across the roof and clipped on. It shouldn’t take an eternity, as a conservatory is usually not that big.

Final Thoughts

In short, that’s how to put a tiled roof on a conservatory. However, you need to be careful, so you don’t mess up. You must ensure you have the right framework, so it is able to sustain the weight. Hopefully, this guide will help you get the job done.
