Kurio Snap Review – Digital Camera for Kids

16 November 2017 by Eileen 1 Comment

Kurio Snap is a brand new portable, robust digital camera specially built for children to take fun pictures, selfies and Boomerange style videos with easy editing tools on a large touch screen. It is like an instant portable photo booth. It is available in Pink and Blue, and suitable for aged four and above.

Kurio Snap is also packed with interactive games and fun editing apps allowing children to be creative and they can share their images and videos via Wi-Fi or USB connection to a printer to capture the moment.

This Kurio Snap is well made and well protected by the soft silicone bumper around the camera that provides scratch proof and splash proof protection. It also has a convenient wrist strap for easy carry. We love that it comes with a large touch screen with big buttons that make it easy to navigate.

The camera is a 3MP swivel camera lens with 4x zoom that is easy to switch from regular camera mode to taking selfies or YouTube-style videos. You just have to be careful to not use mucky fingers to touch the lens! It also comes with a decent built-in flash and headphone connection! On the side of the camera is a micro SD card slot where you can use a micro SD card up to 32GB to expand its memory.

In the box, it also comes with one short micro USB cable and instructions. For the first initial use, they recommend a 3 hour charge. So if you are buying one for Christmas/birthday, you might want to charge it first before wrapping it up! Also this does not comes with a charger, so you would need to charge it via a laptop or USB plug. It has a 1000mAh built-in rechargeable battery. At the moment, they have been playing with it on and off, so we’re charging it daily. If it is on standby mode, it will last for 10 days. If it is not used for a few minutes, it will turn itself off.

Setting it up is pretty simple. When you first turn it on, you need to set the language, time and date. You also can modify the photo and video resolution or activate the Wi-Fi connection. For the photo resolution, you can set to 0.3MP, 1MP, 2MP or 3MP. For video resolution, you have two options: VGA and 720P. To get a better picture for printing, it is best to set the highest resolution. You can also personalise the background and menu bar theme.

There are more than 100 photo filters, frames and stickers to choose from to decorate your photos and videos or use the drawing tool to make every photo your own. Children can create fun slideshows and add their own custom soundtrack or sound effects. There are three basic built-in music tracks but you can add more. Ms C loves using the Boomerange effect where she is able to create short videos with three different speeds (Slow, Normal and Fast). I think she has been taking thousands of clips of Mr K doing silly moves! She is truly making full use of its features! She also has been creating great action photos with stickers!

Kurio Snap comes three preloaded with mini fun games where you can be the star by snapping a selfie and you are in the game! The three games are Flies Attack, Hair Salon and Cooking Time. For the Flies Attack game, you get to shoot at flies to gain maximum points within the allotted time. For the Hair Salon game, you choose a haircut, dye, cut and shampoo it. Then save your customized selfie. For Cooking Time, you use the touchscreen and do the correct movements to prepare three delicious recipes. I love that this is not only a camera, but it also entertains children with these games.

If you have two Kurio Snaps, you can connect them using the Wi-Fi technology to share photos, video, Boomerange files and slideshows. You can also share it with compatible Android or iOS devices using the KurioSnap App. For the initial connection with Android or iOS devices, it requires you to key in the connection password which can be found in the instructions.

Both of my children continue to enjoy using these and have been happily snapping away and taking lots of video. This is definitely great for them to take out and about. It is well made for children and packed with fun photo editors for their target age group. They make a great Christmas gift or present. It is available to buy from a number of retailers including Amazon, Smyth’s Toys and Argos. For more information, please visit: http://kurioworld.com/uk/products/kurio-snap/
