Hamswan F68 Action Camera Review

12 October 2017 by Eileen 2 Comments

Hamswan F68 Action Camera is a compact 170 degree wide angle lens camera that allows you to capture scenery shots and close-range selfies. With a water-resistant case, it allows you take it as deep as 30 meters under the water. This comes with built in WiFi that allows you to connect freely to the app for full control of all functions and settings.

In this well presented box, it comes with so many accessories that I didn’t know where to start. I’m amazed that so many items are included given the price it is sold for. There are clips for a bicycle, stands, adapters, plenty of support posts, 3M adhesive tape, adhesive mounts, fixed base, back clamp, protective door etc. The accessories are well made and it truly caters for action. Of course, the thing that they didn’t provide is the micro SD card. It can take up to 64GB.

Before you use it, it is always best to charge it first via the USB cable provided. It didn’t take long to charge but it can only record for up to 90 minutes. Also do remember to remove the protective film on the waterproof shell before you use it. It was so small and well stuck on that it can easily be missed.

The first thing you notice about the camera is its small size. This is a very compact and lightweight camera measuring 5.8 cm by 4 cm by 3 cm. There are four buttons: on/off, action, up and down. This camera is so easily to navigate. I didn’t even need the instructions and was able to figure it out. Again there is not much to set in the settings. You can video, take a picture and playback video and photos.

This camera is advertised as 4K Ultra HD but I do think it is a bit of stretch to say that this is a good 4K camera. The 4K video only records at 15 frames per second (fps). In contrast, the default setting when we first used the camera was at 1080p 60fps which gives much smoother video quality.

The video/picture quality is excellent when used on sunny days and in good lighting. However, we found it struggled a bit at dusk as the light fades. We have some great footage of my children on a skytrail climbing adventure and it was very crisp and clear. Also when it is in use, the screen will turn itself off to save power. There have been a few times I forgot that I was still videoing!

This also comes with a water-resistant case that protects the camera. You can take it deep in water up to 30 metres. I have not tried it but would definitely use it if we do water sports or go to the beach. The buttons are still operable through the case but they are stiffer to press. Also once the camera is inside the case, the sound quality reduces massively which is understandable.

Overall I find that this action camera represents great value for money and is ideal for daytime use. It is available to buy on the Hamswan website or Amazon.
