Sprung Memory Foam Rolled Mattress Review

2 October 2016 by Eileen

Recently Bed Guru have launched a range of Rolled Mattresses and the model I have here is the Sprung Memory Foam Rolled Mattress.  When I first heard about rolled mattress, I was unsure if it would provide me enough support, especially for my spine.  My biggest worry was that the mattress would be very thin and uncomfortable that I would be able to feel the bed slats.  However, my worries were unfounded as after a week of using it, I am loving it, so read on to find out my thoughts and watch my video review.

When the king size mattress arrived, it was vacuum packed in a long rectangular box.  The overall weight was not very heavy and my husband and I managed to get it upstairs to our bedroom without too much effort.  In my video, you will be able to see how I unpacked the mattress by myself: https://youtu.be/zMfM_nTKCCY

I was able to unroll the mattress by laying it down onto the bed slats.  Then I used scissors to cut away the sticky tape and within seconds, the bed bounced out quickly into the original shape and straight onto the bed.

Then I took off the plastic cover and made sure the mattress label was facing upwards.  According to the instructions, it will takes a few hours (maximum 72) to fully recover.  Also sometimes the mattress might smell of damp or have a musty smell.  This is because the mattress has been treated with a harmless Fire Retardant at source, in order to comply with UK Fire Regulations.  Hence always air the mattress in a well ventilated environment.

This mattress is well ventilated, as well as hypo-allergenic, anti-bacterial and has anti-dust mite qualities.  The top layer of Memory Foam is very soft to feel and comfortable.  The buttons come with plastic tops and I thought this would annoy me.  However, I was delighted that I did not feel it and my husband didn’t notice it either.

This mattress is a non-turn and there are no handles on the mattress.  However, it is a good idea to rotate the mattress (top to bottom) on a regular basic to ensure an even sleeping profile.

After using it for a week, I really like this mattress because it is so comfortable and soft to sleep on. My body gently moulds into the mattress and it helps relieve the pressure points, especially my shoulder and hip.  Our old mattress was always firm as this is Mr C’s preference and I often have to turn during the night because my shoulder goes numb.  With this new mattress, I find that I turn less in bed, especially as I like to sleep on my side.  On the other hand, Mr C is not getting use to the bed being so soft.

Sitting on the edge of the mattress, I will sink right into it and I’m not keen on that.  However, the manufacturer doesn’t recommend sitting on the sides of the mattress as it will cause uneven wear.  But once I lay flat, it’s very comfortable and I enjoy my sleep.

I find that this mattress is comfortable but my husband prefers a firm mattress. This is a rated a 3 mattress firmness (soft).  If you prefer firmer mattress, then you have to look for ratings 8 to 10.  Overall I find this mattress is good value for money and helps relieve pressure points.  It comes with a 1 year manufacturing guarantee and comes in six different sizes: Small Single, Single, Small Double, Double, King and Super King.  This is available to buy from Bed Guru.
