Interplay Electric Stunt Buggy Review

4 October 2016 by Eileen

The Electric Stunt Buggy from Interplay is an easy to build model car for children aged eight and above.  This buggy is from the Technokit range which helps your child to practise and learn about electrical and mechanical principles.

Inside this kit, it comes with pre-cut cards and other components to make the model.  The only other items you need are 2 AA batteries which are not included.  It is easy to assemble and does not need glue.

Mr K loved building the model but he required plenty of my help to put some of the components together, especially the wheels. This is straightforward build as there are only a few steps, and the instructions are very clear to understand but again he need my help to guide him through.

Once you assemble the pre-cut cards, the model is very sturdy as the pre-cut cards are a very tight fit in between the groove. The pre-cut cards are made from thick cardboard that are not easily bent and the print quality looks nice.

This comes with three foam washers: red, blue and green.  If you use the small diameter washer (red), it will make the buggy go faster on flat, smooth surfaces.  The larger diameter washer (green) will make the buggy accelerate better, climb better and perform better on rough surfaces.  We have selected the blue which is in between those two.  This buggy performs very well on most surfaces with the blue washer.

The small electric motor slots into the clip very neatly and nicely inside the buggy.  To attach the battery box, you have to ensure that it is switched off and use the Velcro pad provided to stick on the boot of the buggy.

As mentioned, Mr K found it quite tricky to fix the wheels.  He also struggled with the connector from the battery box to the electric motor.  To be fair, I needed to use a lot of strength to push the axles properly and tight.

Both of my children enjoy playing with this buggy and to use it to race against other vehicles they have. But this buggy has a mind of its own and sometimes may tip backwards onto two wheels while still driving forwards. Also, it does not always go straight and may veer to the left or right which may be due to the slight lateral movement in the axle.  However, even with all the crashes into the wall or the furniture, nothing has broken and the whole model still feels very sturdy.  It is indeed a great little durable buggy!  It is available to buy online, from good toy shops and Amazon.

Did you know that you can also build the buggy the other way round?  If you build your buggy with the white on the outside, this will allow you to paint or colour in the cards.  Please do note that this will mean the location of the motor will change and it will now drive in reverse.  It also comes with four wheels rims (in the instructions) for you to stick onto your foam wheels.  We didn’t notice it until it was too late, hence we have left it out.
