Interplay Pocket Microscope Review

9 April 2016 by Eileen

This Pocket Microscope is small in size to fit in your pocket/bag, and powerful enough to magnify up to 30 times in size using precision optics.  This is compact and portable to use compared to those old-fashioned desk microscopes!

Inside the box you’ll find:

  • Illuminated pocket microscope
  • Sample slide with grasshopper body parts
  • Sample slide with textiles
  • 3 x blank microscope slides
  • 12 x transparent sample covers
  • 12 x labels for samples
  • 4 x storage jars for samples
  • Tweezers
  • Instructions

It is suitable for aged 6 onwards and requires two AA batteries to operate.  To insert the batteries, you need to slide back the battery panel to insert it. When you unfold the microscope, the light automatically illuminates the area in front of the lens. This is so simple to use and only requires adjustments to focus. Both my children were able to operate it correctly and have fun using it!

As this also comes with blank plastic slides, we were able to stick random stuff like hair, fibres, grass etc. on it using the sample covers to seal it. You can also use the microscope without the slide!

Both of my children had fun exploring different materials and loved checking out each item in detail. This pocket microscope can be use indoors and outdoors.

The instructions give you many helpful hints about how to get a close-up view of just about anything, and suggests some fascinating subject matter.  For example, you could make your slide to watch live ants by customise it with cut out cardboard.  Or you could do a salt test.

We were very much impressed with the microscope. Even though it is compact, it is so powerful and easy to use too! We can take this out with us to explore anything. It is a great value for money and a great educational tool! This is available in good retailers and Amazon.
