Last week, we were fortunate to be involved with the Into The Woods viewing Twitter party, celebrating the launch of their 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD on 18th May 2015. Did you manage to see some of my tweets? If you follow the hashtag #IntoTheWoods, you will be able to see it!
This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (Mackenzie Mauzy), all tied together by an original story involving a Baker and his Wife (James Corden and Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the Witch (Meryl Streep), who has put a curse on them.
This musical movie is over two hours (approximately 125 minutes long). We had to pause in between for a toilet break and of course, getting popcorn! I was amazed that both of my children aged 6 and 7 were glued to it and watched it all in one sitting. There is a lot of singing at the start of the film and throughout the whole show. My daughter was so excited to see so many fairy tale characters in one show like Cinderella, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood and Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk. The storyline was quite confusing initially as there’s a preconception of it being a ‘happily ever after’. However, the story flows smoothly and is cleverly done, with a modern twist on the beloved fairy tales. The kids liked it so much, they have been watching it for three days in a row! I find myself humming along to the songs too – they are quite catchy! It is based on the musical stage production by legendary eight-time Tony, Grammy® and Oscar®-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim and Tony® winner screenplay writer James Lapine.
This Blu-ray comes with an incredible selection of never seen before bonus content, including an exclusive original song ‘She’ll Be Back’ performance by Meryl Streep, There’s Something About The Woods, The Cast As Good As Gold and Deeper Into The Woods. It also comes with film commentary with director Rob Marshall and producer John DeLuca. Finally, you can also get direct access to the musical song segments from the film, with optional sing-along lyrics.
