Entertaining your children with DVDs

1 August 2014 by Eileen

Recently, we received three DVDs for review which has come at just the right time to keep the kids entertained during the school holidays! For those days that are too hot or when it rains, we will usually catch a movie. We have received Back To The Sea; The Care Bears: Totally Sweet Adventure and Mumfies Quest. They are all available to buy now from Amazon or any good retailer.

Back To The Sea

Back To The Sea

The film is made in 2012 and the DVD was released on 7th July 2014. It is about Kevin, a young flying fish who lives in the New York harbour. He has a keen sense of adventure, and a dream of leading his family back to Barbados – the mythical kingdom of the flying fish. However one fateful day his determination to explore lands him in trouble, as he gets captured by a fishing ship and plunged into a fish tank – right in a famous restaurant in New York City’s Chinatown. Whilst there, Kevin befriends the owner’s son and a handful of fishy friends. Together they embark on a daring quest to escape, using trust and friendship and to get Kevin back home to the sea.

This animation is feels like a mix of Finding Nemo and Shark Tales. My 6 year old son was keen to watch it but my 5 year old daughter lost interest quickly. I think she prefers more girly shows like Little Mermaid. The essence of the story is about friendship and determination.

Care Bears Totally Sweet Adventure

Care Bears: Totally Sweet Adventure

This DVD was released on 7th July. This is the new generation of Care Bears and you meet their new friend, Wonderheart Bear. There are four exciting episodes: Emerald Bridge; Jealous Tea; Sad About You; and Lazy Susan, lasting 89 minutes in total.

My 5 year old was totally engrossed with this show and kept showing me her belly power. I must admit that this was also one of my favourite childhood shows. I would highly recommend it but this will be more suited to girls. The Care Bears are totally adorable!

Mumfie's Quest

Mumfie’s Quest

This DVD was released on 28th July and lasts for 108 minutes. This movie is based on the hit children’s series, The Magic Adventures of Mumfie. It is about Mumfie, a special little elephant and his friends. Share the excitement as they go on a hunt for Pinkey’s mother on a mysterious island.

Both of my children were fascinated with the plot. They both enjoyed this classic movie!
