Recently, Dulux have teamed up with Walltastic to bring you the Bedroom-in-a-box. There are 5 different themes available: Fairy Princess, Avengers Assemble, Jungle Adventure, Peppa Pig and Sea Adventure.
Mr K is a massive fan of Avengers from owning a huge range of superhero costumes to figurines. Having this Avengers Assemble on his wall would definitely make his dreams come true. Sleeping next to his superheroes! How cool is that!
Inside the box, there is an exciting colourful Avengers Assemble mural (in 12 panels), a packet of wallpaper adhesive, perfectly coordinating Dulux paints for the side wall and side skirting board. I love how it all comes included! I would have had no clue which colour to choose to paint for the rest of the wall so it is great that the experts have picked for us.
This kit states that it is ideal for a bedroom approximately 3.5 x 3.5 metres. But the Mural measures 2.44 metres by 3.05 metres. Always measure your room before you decided if this is suitable for your children’s room. Also when selecting the wall, make sure that you can start pasting the mural from LEFT to RIGHT. This is due to the way the mural pieces are designed to overlap.
My son’s room feature wall is 3.5 metres. I wanted to start from right to left starting from the right corner but after putting two panels up, it went horribly wrong. So I took them down and let them dry. Then I decided to risk it and start from left to right, knowing I may might have to trim some of the panels if it went over the corner or fill any potential gap with paint if it fell short.
This is my third time putting up wallpaper in this house and so I was expecting this to be quite straightforward but I was so wrong. Firstly, the mural wallpaper is not as thick as wallpaper you buy from a DIY store. In fact, it feels more like poster quality. So using the wallpaper paste, I found the paper wrinkled up. Secondly, it come in 12 panels: 6 top murals and 6 bottom murals. I did not expect that the wallpaper to be split top and bottom which obviously gives you 6 extra joins to get right. I am still quite a novice with DIY with my sole education provided by the YouTube ‘university’.
In the end, I took another suggestion from the box which was to use double-sided tape. This is such a quick way to do it! After placing all corners with tape, the mural is up in no time. But to match each corner was not easy. I had tried my best to fix it right. Also cutting around the wall plug fixtures was quite tricky. As mentioned, the wallpaper is quite thin, so I had managed to tear a bit around the edges.
However, the results are fantastic! Both of my children and my husband love the mural. It looks amazing from afar and I had keep telling my guests don’t look too closely as they will see all the uneven corners. The overall ambience of his room is slightly darker due to the mural’s dark background but the blue paint gives it a nice balance.
It took me about 6 working hours to get everything done by myself from putting the wallpaper to painting the wall. If you have someone to help, it probably won’t take you too long to paint it. Maybe you could even manage to do the room before the afternoon school run and surprise your children!
I made a video of this kit and my son’s reaction. Do watch the transformation: https://youtu.be/Vcr8koCNt5Q

Looking good. We had The Avengers as well and it’s definitely not for the novice diy-er but the end result is brilliant!
Despite all your little hiccups along the way, I have to say it looks fantastic!! It really stands out and looks amazing on the wall. He must be so pleased with his new look bedroom!
You are so honest, it’s brilliant! I think it’s a shame it was so hard to paper, but it looks amazing, what a great mural! He was obviously delighted with that, I love that he wanted a photo 😀
You are braver than me, I’d never have tackled this. It does look good though.
I know that my son would absolutely love this in his new room! I will definitely get my Dad round though as he is an expert at DIY – it sounds like I would get very stressed trying to put it up myself! Great job 😀
