Jonty – The Dinosaur Who Could Not Go to Sleep

23 March 2014 by Eileen

Jonty – The Dinosaur Who Could Not Go to Sleep is a bedtime storybook app for children learning to read.  The story stars Jonty, a young dinosaur who has trouble getting to sleep when he goes to bed.

This is an ebook which allows children can interact with the story to help Jonty get a good nights sleep and enjoy the interactive adventures.

Jonty - The Dinosaur Who Could Not Go to Sleep app

In this app, there are four modes that allow you to interact with the story in different ways.  You can choose to have the story read to me by a narrator, or you can read it myself.  If your child gets stuck on reading a word you can tap on the individual words to have them read out by the narrator.   This is a great way to get the children to learn the word.

It also comes in Auto Play or Add to Story.  Both kids love add to story as they could randomly add storm, bug and rainbow in the scene to make it more fun!  Not only that, they could even record their own narration.  My children do love messing about but this helps to encourage them to get creative.

The animation is beautifully put together and the background music blends in nicely.  It is easy to navigate with left and right arrows to go backwards or forwards.  It also has a top arrow to go back to the Home page.

Both my children enjoy helping Jonty to put ingredients on the pizza, help him to get warm and cosy by closing the windows, turn on the fan and putting his blanket for him.  This is a short but lovely interactive ebook to teach children how to get a comfortable nights sleep.  Personally, I think this ebook is suitable for preschool children to year one.

It is available to buy on the App Store℠ at a reduced price of £1.49/$1.99 for a limited time and also as an ebook on the Kindle Store and the iBookstore℠.  It contains no ads or in-app purchases and transmits no personal information.

This looks really sweet, Bud is starting to discover apps and I think this would work well for him.

This looks like a fun app. I love the idea of the kids being able to add their own thing to the story to make it their own.
