It is normal to feel concern regarding your children’s education. But how can you assist them with their studies? Let me introduce you to Letts Revision books and Collins books. We have received three new Letts Monster Practice books and two Collins My First books for Mr K to review.
Letts Revision
Letts is a fun activity book for parents who support their child’s learning at home. Their books are robust in content and up-to-date with the curriculum, making them a reassuring purchase for parents. Children will enjoy discovering the world through these colourful reference and sticker books, and sharing the experience with their parents.
These new Letts Monster Practice books come with new friendly monster characters to make revision fun. We have these three books:
- Spelling and Phonics, Age 6-7
- Multiplication and Division, Age 6-7
- Addition and Subtraction, Age 6-7
Each book comes with sticker rewards, activities and a monster mask which you can cut out from the back of the book. My son is always keen on looking at colourful pictures and characters. He’s too young to understand the old adage of “don’t just a book by it’s cover”, so these are definitely right up his alley. I am not very good at phonics so I am glad that each book has an answer sheet at the back. If I don’t know, I can always peek at the answer! I also love that for every activity, there is a fun zone pack with craft ideas, word searches or making a badge etc. It helps to break up the stress and have a bit of fun before continuing the next page. Mr K loves his stickers and feels very proud each time he earns one.
Besides the revision range, Letts also have Skills Practice books. This range of practice books gives children invaluable practice of key maths and English skills to build confidence ahead of the Key Stage 2 SATs. The full list of titles available in this series includes: Spelling, Times Tables, Mental Arithmetic, Comprehension and Grammar & Punctuation.
The Collins My First Series
These are packed with photographs, fun facts, quizzes and colourful diagrams. The book is designed to entertain and educate young readers aged between 5 and 8. They are geared to enable parents to share the experience of reading and discovering the world with their children, and to inspire reluctant readers who may not relish reading but in fact enjoy feeding their imagination and thirst for facts.
We have the Transport and Animals books. They are easy to follow with great illustrations and photographs. Both of my children especially love the animals book. They both love to learn the facts and body descriptions of the animals. In this book range, there are also World Atlas, World Flags, The Solar System, Encyclopaedia, The Human Body, Animals, Science, Transport, Myths And Legends, Earthquakes And Volcanoes, Dinosaurs and Wonders Of The World. They are perfect choices for long trips.

They look like great books, I have all this to come with homework and revision. I’m sure Monkey would enjoy the ‘My First’ series now as it’s the sort of thing we borrow from the library every couple of weeks!
