Smellessence the Splotz Scented Book

28 May 2013 by Eileen

Don’t you just love the smell of a new book? Now Autumn Children’s book publisher has a new range of scented books for children which takes it to a whole new level! It is a new and exciting technology which involves children in the story and allows them to interact with the books on a multi-sensory level. We were sent four books of the scented books: Bluze, Honey, Coco and Mucky for review.  They are four new characters from the second range of Smellessence the Splotz books. I was very excited to read these with my children!

Smellessence the Splotz Scented Book

Each book is written by Smriti Prasadam-Halls and illustrated by David Boyle. The books are suitable for ages three and above.Just a little information about these four books. They are paperback containing about 24 pages and 150 x 150mm. The font is in various sizes, simple and easy to read by young school children.  Each page is beautifully illustrated with a lot of actions with a big SPLOTZ at the end. At the end of the book, it comes with 9 circle stickers that you rub to release the smell. My children are so tempted to use every stickers and put them on their favourite corners of the house! The scents of the stickers are not very strong at all and I don’t think there should be any concern for side effects.

Smellessence the Splotz Scented contents

Bluze

The story is about the life of Bluze who is full of music.  He loves to create new songs and sing along until…read this funny story with lots of gorgeous illustrations.

Honey

She is very sweet. She loves to go for walks and feed the birds. Look out for the big surprise!

Coco

She is a lovely girl who loves her chocolate and doesn’t care who knows her secret. She smells chocolatey.

Mucky

This is about the life of Mucky who is very stinky and he hates to wash.  Even when he does wash, he washes in a slimy mud bath. Yuk!  My children didn’t like the scent but I find it was alright.

Each book is written in rhyme which makes it very interesting and fun to read. The RRP is £2.99 for each book which is reasonable. I rate these books 4 stars out of 5 as I am not sure how long the scent will last.

Disclosure: I received these books from the publisher for free. However, they have not paid me for this review, and they do not exercise any editorial control over my review or anything else on this site.
