The first time that I came across The Gruffalo magnetic book was my son’s 3rd birthday present from my friend, AP. It looked so interesting and I heard a lot of good reviews from friends that it is a classic book for the whole family! We loved it so much that we followed up and bought the paperback and hardback editions!! I’m really glad that I did which will be explained soon!
The story is about a mouse who goes on an adventurous journey through the deep, dark woods and is confronted by Fox, Owl and Snake who all want to eat him. To save himself, he makes up a story about an imaginary Gruffalo to scare them off. It is a well-written book for children with rhyming text and fantastic illustrations by Axel Scheffler bringing the story to life. I would rate the book 5 out of 5 stars.
In December 2011, I was fortunate to win a tickets for the family to watch The Gruffalo Live on stage in London Lyric Theatre through madeformums website.
We went to watch the show on the 30 December 2011 and it was fantastic! There were only 3 actors/actress but it was an excellent performance by them! The music was very catchy and easy to sing along. It was quite involving for the children, as they sang along, wiggling their bums and hands. The Gruffalo did scare my children but was good fun!
The length of the show was 55 minutes which is more than enough. I can’t really get a 2 and 4 years old children to sit for longer than that. The show is suitable for age 3 and above. We also managed to meet and get an autograph from Axel Scheffler as you can see from the pictures above! But it is a shame that the theatre did not supply booster seats.
We were unable to take any photos in the theatre but we managed to take one photo of my daughter showing her Gruffalo sticker just before the show began. My children had to sit on our laps as their views were obstructed by other people. I would rate the show 5 out of 5 stars.
