Earlier in June, while I was at the BritMums conference, I was introduced to Spatone from Nelsons. I was offered to try out their apple flavoured liquid iron supplement with vitamin C. My first impression is that it has quite a refreshing apple flavour with an aftertaste of iron. I am not a big fan of iron tablets as they always gave me constipation while I was pregnant.
This Spatone liquid supplement helps to top up iron levels with fewer unpleasant side effects and they are shown to be easily absorbed by the body.
We were given a box to try out which I shared with Mr C. In fact, Spatone is suitable for the whole family, including children from aged 2 onwards. They are also suitable for vegetarians and they are gluten free with no artificial colours.
It didn’t give me any side effects but there’s no disguising the iron taste. I didn’t notice any increase in energy levels, but I always never go to bed at a regular time nor do I exercise. I know I should really aim to sleep for eight hours a night but after having children, they have changed my life. My sleep patterns are haywire.
Mr C thought the supplements were nice. He likes the apple flavour and the iron taste is fine for him. Again, he didn’t notice any change in his energy levels but maybe he didn’t take enough of them regularly enough.
Spatone suggested a few top tips to keep fatigue at bay:
- Instead of having something sugary, try eating a snack which will raise your blood sugar levels slowly and keep them up like a handful of nuts, oatcakes with peanut butter or raw carrots with hummus.
- Try taking a natural iron supplement to help maintain healthy iron levels to reduce fatigue and tiredness.
- Instead of having that cup of coffee make sure you stay hydrated throughout the day. Aim for 6-8 glasses of water.
- Exercise is not always possible in the middle of a working day, but a brisk 10 minute walk can actually do wonders and boost those energy levels.
I love that Spatone does not give me any side effects which I used to from those regular iron tablets and the aftertaste was not that bad at all. Spatone is available to buy from Boots priced at £10.55 for 28 sachets (25 ml in each sachet) which works out at about 38 pence each. It is inexpensive for a four week supply.
