Mega Bloks have recently launched a range of new toys from SpongeBob SquarePants. We have received the Micro Action Figure (RRP £1.99), Boat Racer (RRP £9.99) and Invisible Boatmobile Rescue (RRP £19.99).
Micro Action Figure pack
These are the Mega Bloks SpongeBob SquarePants series 1 with eight collectable figures like Nerd Spongebob, Surfer Fish, Karatay Spongebob, Strangler Fish, Cowboy Patrick, Jail Fish, Caveman Squidward, and a secret rare mystery figure!
We are so lucky to get Strangler Fish which is rare to find! The pack is easy to piece together but the arms might be a bit tricky to insert. Each figure comes with a clear brick to stand on for display.
Boat Racer
This boat racer comes in a cylinder tube which works well as a gift. It contains 74 pieces and is aimed at ages 5 – 10 years old children. There are three more collectables in this range: Patrick Racer, Patrick Wacky Pack and SpongeBob Wacky Pack.
This buildable racer comes with a collectible SpongeBob, his silly sunglasses and goofy hat. Once constructed, it measures 11 cm by 5 cm by 5 cm and drive SpongeBob around the neighbourhood in his racer.
Both children needed guidance to piece this all together. They found it hard to press the pieces tightly together. I am in fact quite impressed with quality of the Mega Bloks bricks. We used to have a Spider-Man set and was quite disappointed with the cheap plastic bricks. Now they seem to have improved the quality and they feel so much nicer.
Invisible Boatmobile Rescue
This is a 337 pieces building set that comes with an invisible boatmobile with jellyfish net, a bobCAT vehicle with a jellyfish catapult, two red plants, one signal, 4 jellyfishes, three micro action figures: Plankton, SpongeBob and Patrick.
The pieces comes in individually sealed numbered bags. However, the numbering on the bag does not represent anything useful for building the car so we resorted to opening all the bags and grouping all the similar bricks together.
Both my children found it hard to build the boatmobile. In the end, Mr C ended up building the set for them. The translucent blocks gives the feeling of invisibility. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow.
Once constructed, it is quite durable to play with and for launching the jellyfish catapult. The only bad point is that the jellyfish net keeps coming off the loop. This set keeps both children amused especially as they both fight over who to launch and who to catch. It is a lot of fun!
Overall, these ranges are fantastic and great for any SpongeBob fans. They are good value for money and provide a lot of imagination play. The quality of the bricks should ensure that the sets should last a long time. All are currently available from The Entertainer and Smyths.
