5 Tips For Redecorating Your Kids Bedroom

26 January 2022 by Eileen

As children grow, they can quickly become bored of their space, so you may be thinking about redecorating their bedroom to give them a fresh area to sleep and play in. Decorating should be fun as you get to be creative and use your imagination. Here are our five top tips for redecorating your kid’s bedroom.

5 Tips For Redecorating Your Kids Bedroom

Upgrade Curtains To Blinds

Upgrading from curtains to blinds can give the room a more refreshed and lighter look. They can be a good idea especially if you are upgrading your kid’s bedroom from being too ‘childish.’ Blinds can give a more mature look to a room that will last into the teenage years. Venetian blinds are a fantastic alternative to traditional wooden blinds and as they are light-weight and easy to clean, so would be a good upgrade for the room.

Blinds allow the room to have more than one light-setting, you can toggle the blinds halfway if you don’t quite want full sunlight, but still would like some natural light. Venetian blinds are also more energy efficient as they keep the room cooler in the summer, so you can save some money on running a fan or air conditioning.

Use Colour To Your Advantage

Colour is a fun and creative way to upgrade a bedroom without breaking the bank. You don’t necessarily have to paint the whole bedroom either; a pop of colour on one wall or in one corner can be enough to make a difference to the room. If you plan to only paint a bit of the room, you can always buy sample pots of paints from supply shops instead of spending on a whole tub that might go to waste. Sample pots are also a great way to test out different colours before you make a final decision.

Colour psychology is a real thing, certain colours can have different effects on our mood. This may be something to think about when redecorating your kid’s room; opt for ‘happy’ colours like orange, lilac, pink and yellow as they can create a warm and cosy atmosphere.

Get Furniture That Will Last

As your children get older, they will start to outgrow their bedroom furniture pretty quickly, so it is a good idea to get furniture that will last. So why not turn the entire room into a house? With house beds by BedKingdom, you can create an inviting and safe space your kid will love. These house beds come in various sizes, have exceptional quality and durability, as well as a variety of stylish designs to match any pre-existing decor.

If they are moving into a ‘big bed’, find one that will last them and opt for a classic style that your child will still like in a few years time. Investing in a good quality bed will save you money in the future as it is less likely to need replacement after only a short time of use.

This applies to other bedroom furniture too, if their bedroom has space for a desk then try and find one that is fun but not too childish, so they don’t grow out of it too quickly. If their bedroom is small but you are still wanting them to have a desk, then check out these desks that are designed for small spaces.

Less Is More

Kids bedrooms get messy quickly anyway, so don’t add to that by filling their room with unnecessary clutter. When it comes to redecorating your kid’s bedroom, less it more. Keep their floors clear so it gives them space to play and run around. It also gives them a chance to personalise their rooms how they want so the room can properly feel like their own space.

Adding a playmat or a nice rug on their floor can make their room feel cosier and can encourage play. It creates a space they will want their friends to come and visit, and if the floor is clear, it means you can set up a makeshift bed on the floor if their friends want to stay over.

Get Your Kids Involved

One of the most important tips for redecorating your kid’s bedroom is to get them involved. It is their personal space so make sure you hear their opinions on what they like. If your kid is not good with change, having them be involved in the redecoration process can help them transition from their old room to their new one, and have fun along the way! Perhaps select a few items of furniture and get them to choose out of them, take them shopping when you choose paints, or let them choose some new bedding.

Redecorating can seem like a bit of a daunting task but try not to rush the process and you will end up with better results. Listen to your kids and create a room that can be a cosy chill-out spot, as well as a place they can do schoolwork. Hopefully, this list of tips will help you through the journey of redecorating and you may also find these tips come in handy if you ever need to redecorate your own bedroom!
