After five long years of waiting, the first Transformers game is finally available to buy on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PC digital. Transformers: Battlegrounds is a tactical action game for the whole family! This game is brought to you by Outright Games and they are taking the franchise to new territories!
Many of us grew up watching Transformers, from cartoons to live action movies, and from getting Transformers toys to building your own costumes! It has never failed to capture the heart of a true fan, especially for my husband and son. They both love the movies and toys, and have always been fascinated with the mechanics behind the transformation. Now with this game, they were able to team up and play this strategy action game in turn.
The storyline revolves around Megatron, leader of the Decepticons, who is invading Earth. It is down to Bumblebee and the crew of Autobots to help restore peace in the universe. In this game, the player is their new commander who will try to outwit the fiendish Decepticons.
There is a story mode (mission) and arcade mode. A player will lead the Autobots by commanding Bumblebee, Grimlock, Windblade, Optimus Prime and more heroes in thrilling strategic battles.
For the story mode, there are three difficulty settings: easy, medium or hard, for you to select from and it’s for solo play. We started the game on easy to get us to the next mission quickly and to learn while we play. You will need to complete each mission before moving on to the next. In each mission, it will take you to different environments, from desert sandstorms to city streets. I love the graphics and sound effects which is unmistakably Transformers. Each environment is carefully drawn and the details make it so fun to play!
Along each mission, there is a tutorial to teach you how to attack and use your Energon meter to unleash powerful Ultimate Abilities that crush the fiercest enemies.
As for the arcade mode, you can play solo or team up with a friend in local multiplayer. In two player mode, as it’s a turn-based game, each player takes a turn to complete their actions. There are five strategic games: Capture the Flag, Decepticon Grudge Match, Energon Capture, Last Stand and Destruction. In each game, you choose your own Autobots or Decepticons.
As a big fan of Transformers, they both love this game particularly as they can strategise and work together utilising the strengths of each of the characters.
