We all know how dull the house can be after the last pieces of Christmas decorations are taped back up into their cardboard box and shoved straight up to the loft. Don’t worry though, as I am here exploring ways to help you brighten up your home to chase those January blues away.
I think most people would agree that we women love to shop and grab bargains whenever we can! We might be in January blues, but there are still lots of sales and gems hiding around the shops, especially in supermarkets! There is plenty of last season stock for interiors, like cushions, throws, mirrors, reduced to half price or more! So this is the best time to grab a bargain and dress your house beautifully!
1. Get House Plants
Plants can be a helpful way to brighten up your home in winter for a number of different reasons. Firstly, it can create a much nicer view and make the room more appealing. Secondly, plants are known for purifying the air in your home, removing toxins. It is nature’s air purifier that can get rid of many dangerous compounds from your home so that you can breathe easier! The fresh air you receive from the plant can help to increase your capacity to think and focus.
If you’re not sure what to get, it is best to pop down to your local garden centre to ask for advice or research it online before you head off! Some plants are well-known for their abilities to improve the quality of your home. For example, a snake plant is known for purifying the air and is perfect for placing in your living room. A peace lily can help to remove mould from the air, and so is the best plant to sit on your bathroom windowsill! Unlike some more dangerous types of lilies, this plant does not cause acute kidney failure in cats when ingested. If you have a pet, do check up on the plant before you buy. Otherwise, a fake plant can also add a decorative touch to any room!
2. Get a Luxury Stylish Cocktail Chairs
We all have ‘the chair’! No, not the chair-cum-laundry basket that takes/hold anything that is too dirty for the wardrobe but too clean for the laundry! I mean the chair that stands out on its own and impresses your guests when they visit your home! Yes, that kind of chair!
Recently, I came across Sloane & Sons Stylish Chairs who pride themselves on their range of high quality yet affordable tub chairs, which are a stylish addition to any home or business. They are designed by their own talented in-house team. Their chairs are covered with either faux leather or fabric, and they are built on a swivel base or short wooden legs, so they are designed to accommodate a variety of tastes.
I am thrilled to receive this bold red cocktail chair that brings vibrancy and a classy vintage style to our home. It is a perfect addition to our living room as its look so elegant, comfortable and luxurious! It’s become a talking point in our modern home. I love it and so do the rest of my family members!
A good quality chair does come with a price to pay. I don’t mean the price tag of this chair. I mean the time for me to install those legs! As you know, this chair is made with high-quality wood and materials, it took a lot of strength to install those legs. I had to use a wood drill bit (size 3) to drill through the base before I could screw in the legs. The screws are self-tapping but I didn’t have the strength to screw through the hard wood. Hence I used the drill bits to drill holes to make it easy for me to tap in the screws. It was a lot easier to screw but still needed plenty of strength to do all 16 screws. One thing to note is that it is best not to screw using a power drill as it will blunt the top of the screw. It took me an hour to get all four legs up.
Once it is up, it is very sturdy and of course, it looks excellent. I only took the chair out for a couple of photos as it is not an outdoor chair. The lighting inside the house wasn’t brilliant. Nevertheless, this is the chair that has become the centrepiece of our living room!
3. Get/Create a Centrepiece to Dress Your Windowsill or Dining Table
These could be as simple as flowers/herbs picked from your own garden and display it on your windowsill or even on your dining table. Or leave a baseplate and napkins out and mix and match coloured plates and cutlery, straws and other accessories.
What tips do you have to brighten your home and feel more joyful?
