I was asked to come up with some ideas on what my dream bathroom would look like, so I’m sharing them with you if you’d like a little inspiration. I’m keen on incorporating my background into this room, as an Asian themed space is ideal for creating a calming and inviting atmosphere – while incorporating all the serenity of the most luxurious spa. It’s all about clean lines and minimalism – I love the soothing nature of this kind of look.
My dream bathroom is very much dependent on colour. I like white combined with earthy and muted tones for a relaxing take on luxurious living. A warm wooden floor adds to the spa-like feeling, and will give my bathroom a gorgeously contemporary edge.
I love the idea of adding a bit of glamour to my bathroom. A gold-tiled vanity unit feels delightfully decadent, and I might even build it myself so that I can get it exactly the way I want it. The tiles are important too, as these can transform the look of my bathroom – taking it from so-so to having a definite wow factor with very little effort. I was really impressed by the tiles at CTD, and was able to find the perfect match for my dream bathroom – incorporating the muted colour scheme and clean lines.
Although Chinese and Asian design is very much based on a minimalist theme, I like the idea of adding a little of my own personality to the bathroom. A great way to do this is by going for some cool wallpaper, such as koi-printed. The koi fish is a Chinese symbol of wealth and prosperity, so this kind of look is great for creating the impression of cool, sophisticated glamour. I found lots of inspirational prints that would transform any bathroom, and you can do the same with a little research.
My dream bathroom wouldn’t be complete without incorporating feng shui. The idea behind this is to create a tranquil and calming atmosphere that generates good energy. Soothing muted colours are no good if your bathroom is groaning with clutter – my pet hate! I like to use clever storage that keeps everything neatly hidden away, and ensure that there is plenty of light and fresh air. A large mirror on the wall helps to generate positive energy flow, and makes the room appear larger at the same time. The addition of candles and some greenery in the form of a few carefully chosen plants gives the room a serene and welcoming vibe.
I’ve got lots of other ideas on how to turn your home into a relaxing, Asian inspired haven that is stylish and sophisticated. I like the fact that this kind of look is a different from most other modern British interiors – especially as it offers the opportunity to really put your own stamp on the bathroom, bedroom and everywhere else in your home.
