Fun in Beaudesert Park Farm

25 April 2015 by Eileen

Having lived in the Midlands for seven years, there are still a lot of places we have yet to explore. Last week, during the Easter break, we went to Beaudesert Park Farm for an education tour hosted by Aiming High via Staffordshire Council. Helpfully, I had my TomTom Sat Nav to give me a helping hand to find Beaudesert Park Farm. We were greeted by Mary, the owner and her helper who guided us through the whole session.

Firstly, we made crumbs for our apple crumble for dessert. Both children enjoyed making a mess while kneading the crumbs. They were so excited!

Next, we made the pizza base using self-raising flour, olive oil and water. It took them a while and both loved to squeeze their pizza dough. After which, we added the tomato sauce and ingredients! It was fun!

Then Mary showed us their pets! They have a rabbit, guinea pig, chickens, turkeys, goat and their rare breed White Park cattle. Children were also able to feed and pet them!

Later, we went back to have our lunch and decorate chick cupcakes. We then went out to make bird feeders using pine cone!

To make this DIY bird feeder is simple. You will need:

  • Pine cone
  • Wire
  • Lard
  • Bird seeds

Method:

  1. Firstly, thread the wire onto the pine cone.
  2. Cover the lard onto the pine cone.
  3. Coat the pine cone with the bird seeds.

  4. Now it is ready to hang.

We also made our own biodegradable plant pot. We had such a fun day at the farm. We are looking forward to going back again when they host the event again!

Disclosure: This activity was hosted by the county council for disabled children, young people and their families.

What a lovely range of activities for the children to enjoy, well done the local council on a great initiative. I love those bird feeders and I now have to try our goats on banana skins, usually the pigs have them all.
