Norwegian Cuisine We Enjoyed in Oslo, Norway

When visiting a new country, it’s a must to try the local cuisine! Oslo, Norway’s capital, offers a delightful blend of traditional Norwegian dishes and modern international flavours.

Here are some of the famous foods and dishes we tried during our trip to Oslo:

Seafood Feast at Lofoten Restaurant

On our first night, we dined at Lofoten Restaurant, located along the picturesque waterfront at Aker Brygge. Aker Brygge is one of Oslo’s most vibrant and iconic areas, blending modern architecture, historic charm, and lively cultural experiences. The long promenade is perfect for a stroll, especially in summer, when the fjord shimmers in the sunlight. Aker Brygge is also a gateway to the Oslofjord, with ferries and boat tours departing nearby.

We visited on their last night before they closed for a two-week Christmas break, so their seafood selection was limited. Unfortunately, they had run out of King Crab, which was disappointing. However, we still enjoyed their delicious fish soup, lobster, fish, and shrimp. Everything was fresh and flavourful, and I would gladly eat there again! (Tip: Book a table in advance, as this spot is popular.)

Dinner at Vulkanfisk AS

On our second night, we went to Vulkanfisk AS, a seafood restaurant inside the Mathallen Oslo food hall. Mathallen Oslo is a vibrant indoor market with over 30 speciality shops, cafés, and eateries showcasing high-quality Norwegian ingredients and dishes.

Similar to our first night, the restaurant was preparing to close for Christmas, so there was no fresh King Crab or lobster available. Nevertheless, we thoroughly enjoyed their hearty fish soup, packed with mussels, shellfish, and tender fish. The grilled salmon was perfectly cooked, and the famous fish and chips did not disappoint. It was a fantastic way to immerse ourselves in Oslo’s culinary scene!
