Overlooked Ways To Add Value To Your Home

9 September 2025 by Eileen

When you think of home upgrades, what comes to mind? Is it the usual kitchen and single-story extensions that pop into your mind first, or oh, about landscaping? Maybe even a loft conversion? All are great ideas and are excellent ways to maximise the functionality of your home, not to mention add value. A great ROI is always welcome when undertaking home improvements.

Overlooked Ways To Add Value To Your Home

But these aren’t your only options for adding value to your property. You can make some clever and well-thought-out adaptations to your home that might not seem impactful but can make all the difference when you come to sell.

Let’s take a closer look at some home upgrades that will boost your property value.

Off-Street Parking

Of course not, not possible for every property, but if you have space outside the front of your home or to the side of the building, can you turn it into off-street parking? This is a valuable addition, especially for homes where parking is at a premium. Because let’s be honest, who wants to park 2 streets away when you can park outside your own front door? And you won’t be alone in wanting this on your property wishlist; buyers will pay more for off-street parking, and you could potentially boost property value by 5 to 10%. Remember, you need to apply to the council for a dropped kerb, and you will be liable for the cost of this, but you need permission before proceeding with this project.

Conservatory

It might sound extravagant, but conservatories are popular extras that home buyers look forward to seeing, especially in rural areas or in south-facing gardens that get sun all day long. Conservatories are snug additions to your property that can be used for many functions, but primarily they’re a place to sit and relax while absorbing the environment around you. Whether you’re sipping on your morning coffee before work or perusing the Sunday papers, tea in hand and a cheeky biscuit on the side, you get to enjoy your morning cuppa or afternoon snack flooded in light without having to wrestle with the weather. It’s important to find Top of the range HUP! Conservatory suppliers will help you source the right style and materials for your home so it looks like part of your home, not something stuck onto the back randomly.

Restore Original Features

Again, nothing you can do in all properties, especially newer builds, but if your home has character or is a Victorian semi or Georgian townhouse, then you need to look at restoring your original features that might have been covered up. Previous generations took offence at period features and covered them up. And if you’ve been anywhere near social media recently, you’ll know that modern buyers are fully embracing period features and incorporating them into their home, thanks to the charm they bring. From uncovering fireplaces previously boarded up, to lifting carpet and finding tiled or parquet flooring, there are many treasures to behold, and you might even top up the value of the property by an extra 30% if your restoration is sympathetic and flawlessly executed to the time period.
