With the summer fast approaching, we wanted to share with you a selection of beaches that are worth a visit or two, during the half-term, summer break or off-peak season.
Whether you’re looking for a beach perfect for a day trip, or somewhere to explore whilst on a staycation to one of the many caravan holidays offered by parks around the UK – here’s a small list to help you explore the beaches offering some of the best natural beauties.
So, where will you explore first during your next staycation?
Durdle Door, Dorset
One of the most photographed natural wonders of the UK, Durdle Door is one beach you certainly need to visit, even if it’s just for the views.
To reach the beach, there are hundreds of steps to go down, which some visitors decide not to tackle – but this means even in peak seasons, the area isn’t too crowded.
Once on the beach, you can explore the Jurassic coast within the cove where it’s set. If the tide is out far enough, you may even be able to go under the naturally formed limestone arch and visit the beach on the other side.
Embleton Bay, Northumberland
Even in the height of summer, Embleton Bay isn’t over-crowded, making it the perfect spot to dip your toes, catch some rays and build some sand castles.
Embleton Bay is home to a golden sand beach, babbling coastal rivers and picturesque sand dunes – the perfect spot for a picnic!
In the distance, you may be able to spot the ruins of a 14th-century castle – ideal for any history lovers.
Runswick Bay, North Yorkshire
Runswick Bay is a mile-long stretch of beach that was once a thriving fishing village. Today, it has been crowned ‘Britain’s Best Beach’ by newspapers such as The Times and Sunday Times, and it’s hard to disagree when you visit.
The beach is sheltered, yet offers golden sands and rock pools to explore, whilst also being home to fossils dating back to the Jurassic Age.
Rhosneigr, Anglesey
Known as one of the UK’s premier places for kite surfing, due to its constantly good winds, you’re bound to witness some amazing kite surfers and windsurfers in action when you visit Rhosneigr beach.
Not only does this stretch of beach offer the ideal conditions for water sports, but it’s also home to rock pools – great for spotting wildlife in their natural habitat, and the perfect spot for a beach picnic on a warm sunny day.
If you would rather be a spectator of the sports somewhere warm on a colder day, there’s a café by the beach that looks out to sea.
