Great Shoe Options for Dads This Winter

16 January 2023 by Eileen

The Best Winter Shoes for Dad

Finding and choosing the right pair of Winter shoes can be tricky. It will depend on where you live, what weather you experience, and how versatile you need the shoes to be. However, there are some tips to remember and a few pairs of shoes that will definitely get the job done.

Whether you experience rain all Winter or get 6 feet of snow, you may be looking for leather shoes and something that can repel water, like boat shoes. Here are some of the best shoes you can get for your dad this Winter.

Great Shoe Options for Dads This Winter

What to Look for in a Winter Shoe

As mentioned already, there are some aspects of the shoes you need to consider when choosing them. The two main ones would be the type of weather you experience, as well as how versatile you need the shoe to be; however, there are a couple more.

Warmth

One aspect that shouldn’t be forgotten when choosing shoes is the warmth they offer. While you can keep your feet toasty with the right pair of socks, it doesn’t mean your shoes should play their part, either.

Durability

If you are getting outdoor or hiking shoes, you will want to ensure that they are durable enough to withstand the elements. Water damage can severely shorten the lifespan of a shoe, and if you live somewhere that gets a lot of rain or snow, this factor is even more important.

When choosing a shoe, read and watch reviews to see how the shoe stands up to these different elements and if it can maintain its shape and fit.

Weather Protection

Winter shoes need to be much better at protecting you from the elements compared to Summer shoes. Look for a pair of shoes that is waterproof or at least water resistant to some degree, as well as a pair that is almost wholly enclosed to stop any water or snow from getting into them.

Versatility

The next thing you want to consider is how versatile the shoes are. Some Winter shoes are purpose-built, such as snow shoes or Caribou boots, and this means they aren’t the best for everyday wear or if you are heading into the office. The best option is to find a balance between versatility and usability.

Chelsea Boots

The Chelsea Boot has been a staple in men’s fashion for many years for a reason. Not only can you dress them up or down, but they can also be worn all year long. While they won’t do well in a snowstorm, Chelsea Boots are more than versatile enough to get through both Summer and Winter.

Dr Martens

Dr Martens have gone through periods of popularity, and they are currently in another one. They are comfortable, durable and provide enough grip and ankle support to stop any serious damage caused by a trip or fall.

Dr Martens are also surprisingly good at keeping the elements at bay; however, deep snow and slush may still creep in after a while.

Red Wing Boots

Red Wings pride themselves on being the first and last boot you will ever need. While they are generally more expensive, you get what you pay for. They are very well made, only use the best materials, and can be worn in rain or shine, Winter or Summer.

They also have a wide range of shapes and styles available, meaning you can find a pair that will suit anyone’s taste..

Snow Boots

If you live somewhere that gets a ton of snow each Winter, you probably don’t have to look any further than snow boots. While they aren’t as versatile as other shoes on this list, they are perfect for a dad who likes to spend his day outdoors, even after a blizzard hits.

Once again, they can be a bit pricey, but there is are enough brands and options available that you are sure to find a pair that suits your budget.

Hunter Wellingtons

Wellington boots are a shoe that falls in between something that is great for snow and great for rain. Hunter is a famous brand in the world of Wellington’s, making all manner of shapes and designs of Wellington boots.

You also have the option of buying Wellingtons that reach the ankle, or reach just under the knee, depending on what your dad will use them for mainly.

Adidas COLD.RDY 2.0

If your dad is more of a sneaker man, the Adidas COLD.RDY 2.0 is the shoe for him. These training and running shoes are designed for outdoor workouts during the colder months of the year, offering warmth and support to keep your feet moving even on the coldest of mornings.

Caribou Boots
If you really want to splurge on a pair of boots that are rather unique, then you should choose a pair of Caribou Boots. Native peoples have used Caribou hide for centuries for warmth, and these boots are simply a modern-day version.

They offer protection from the elements and give you excellent traction and grip but are still comfortable enough to be worn all day.
